...and just in time for Christmas!
Difficult to see who this set is really aimed at. On the one hand, the casual listener is already well served by the numerous ABBA compilations currently on the market (there are or have been more ABBA Best Ofs than there have genuine ABBA studio albums); on the other, the serious fan will be disappointed by the lack of genuine rare material (no foreign language hits and, more importantly, no unreleased stuff from the vaults).
So, peerless though some of the music is, I can rate this latest repackaging no higher than three stars :-(

It's rare than an artist whose been turned into an icon can ever again be seen in mortal form. But such is the case for the Hank Williams heard on these three CD's of transcriptions from 1951. With these fifty-four previously unreleased tracks, the dark saint of country music is delivered from fifty-five years of canonization as a hard-working musician striving to please his audience. Williams' much anthologized commercial recordings will forever keep his star aloft, but these newly released live-in-the-studio renderings, waxed under the sponsorship of Mother's Finest for radio broadcast, crackle with a level of intensity and vocal clarity not always captured in MGM's studios. Best of all, 1951 was a "career year" for Willliams, a year in which ... Read More:

I've been a soundtrack enthusiast since I was a boy, and as with many who share my passion the Indiana Jones soundtracks have long been amongst the most beloved and yet still frustrating albums I have owned.
Of course, John Williams' classic mix of brassy heroism, muscular action and broad romantic motifs need no introduction - a perfect mix of 1930s musical idioms and contemporary pace and styling. But for so long we had to endure cut down selections on album, with so many great cues missing.
Admittedly the DDC/Silva reissue of Raiders did much to correct this for the first score, and the original Last Crusade album pushed the limits of the original CD release and felt moderately complete, but Temple of Doom was always the ... Read More:

First thing i have to say is that this release is truly perfect , a work of art,in fact, that is worth every penny .And i'm not even talking about the music yet !
From the evocative photo which adorns the front cover (taken at a Stax session in the 60's) , to the colours , typography and design of the track listing on the back and the extensive hard-back booklet with tons of info and facts on all the artists and songs it is so obvious that lots of care, attention and hard work has gone into this release by everyone concerned , it's a real labour of love . Thank you.
And , of course , there's the actual music itself .......
OK , i'm biased . Soul is my true love when it comes to music and , specifically , soul of the Southern variety .I was ... Read More:

the master himself-why SONY/BMG dont do this with other artists is curious;
but the playing is excellent as well as the sound, for the dates of recording-and Im
exposed to pieces ive never heard, or even heard of before.
Who knew IS stuck his big toe in to the water of Jazz...?
The shoddy booklet is a real shame, but I cannot complain,
its a box set that doesnt require a fork lift to bring into the house-
and I spent EXACTLY $26.00 USD for it at TOWER Mail Order
true value for money.

Led Zep in their prime 1968-1980, they had there chance for world domination, but they always wanted us keep to waiting for more. With little or no interviews, no singles, no videos, no live snipits on the old grey whistle test. They didn't count on their drummer snuffing it in Sep 1980. He unfortunately was the best part of the band. 27 years on they play at the o2 for just a few select people and couldn't even be bothered to release that on DVD. Good old you tube helped out, but some guys shakey phone from aisle 150 just doesn't cut it. Then just when I thought it was safe there's jimmy page at the Bejing Olympics, fantastic (that'll be enough gigging for 2008 jimmy). Finally Robert Plant needs to wake up before he ends up in a retirement home wishing he had just done one last tour ... Read More:

Peter Green. What do YOU think of when you hear his name ? The lean young man powering through "Oh well" or "The Green Manalishi" ? The blues master at work on "The Stumble" or "The Supernatural" ? The deft light fingered touch that produced such classics as "Man of the World", "Albatross" or "Black Magic Woman"? Or do you think of the acid casualty who produced "In the skies" and was later coaxed back to record (mainly) Robert Johnson covers with Splinter Group? Whichever is your favourite memory of Peter Green it is all here.
This is a wonderful box set featuring virtually evrything of note that this genius of the guitar ever prodiced.
I was privileged to see Splinter Group many times and had tears in my eyes watching this master of the guitar. Occasionally he would get it so ... Read More:
