I'm not from the US, my family hail from Kashmir and I was born in the UK, grew up listening to punk rock but WOW! The soundtrack literally drips with the era and place it hails from; every time I hear a snippet I swear I can feel the heat and smell the wheat - so amazing!

How can anyone who has heard this album agree with the creature who gave it 1 star? Whilst it's not my favourite KR set, it shines like a diamond in the dross of contemporary music and is worth the purchase price for the kinks rework from Jam & Jerusalem.

Alison Krauss I guess is one of those singers you either love or hate. She has a tonal quality that for me epitomises the very best in Bluegrass. This album is no exception. The sheer quality of her voice is at time unbelievable
and whilst it is true she veers away from pure bluegrass - her strength is that she can carry this off with huge credibility. I bought this album not only because I love Alison Krauss - but I heard her wonderful duet with James Taylor of "hows the world treating you?"- and simply had to have it! This is an old song recorded by Elvis in his early days - and hearing Alison and James brought back all those memories of wonderful songs, and meaningful lyrics. I also adore her version of "I'm just a country boy/girl" formerly ... Read More:

Of all the members that belonged to the Byrds at various stages, Gene was without doubt the most talented when it came to songwriting. He was essentially the creative force in the early Byrds, even though Roger McGuinn got the limelight for being the "Leader" of the group.
I cannot understand how this album did not make it big time when it was originaly released. It is equal to anything put out by Dylan, Neil Young, Lennon or Lou Reed. The truth is that many of us realised what a great artist Gene was, only after his untimely demise. Of course some of us were not even born when this came out!
It is a joy to listen to this masterpiece lying down in bed with the headphones on, so that the rest of world is put to one side for one moment. ... Read More:

Introducing us to their rhythmic and melodious country/rock style, and their infectiously candid and assertive manner that would later get them rather unfairly into political hot water, the feisty Dallas trio's first mainstream album is a fantastic example of country music that has been made accessible to a wider audience.
The Chicks are entertaining, they sound as if they really had a lot of fun making this album, and their performances are full of spirit and energy - they're a joy to listen to. The album also has heart and soul, there's a lot of humanity in the lyrics which might not be immediately obvious to the casual listener.
However, I did feel that they were holding something back on these recordings, there was even more life they could ... Read More:

So many other reviews have so succinctly said what I fear I may fail to say. I was working her Birmingham 2005 concert when Restless stopped me in my tracks. As a Steward it is a rare, fine musical band that can cajole me into buying two of their CDs instantly, on the face of one beautiful song.....but am I glad!
AKUS's music could be for those gentle folk who do not want to admit to liking some country music. It could be for those who like exquisite harmonies and pure sound. Or it could simply be for those who love. If you've never been dumped.....if you've never felt crushed....if you've never looked into someone's eyes and seen their soul stare back, then for god's sake buy this album. You simply haven't lived.

When this album was released, Steve was acclaimed in some quarters as country music's version of Bruce Springsteen - high praise indeed. Subsequent albums have shown that comparisons with The Boss are spot on, including their political beliefs, but Steve has largely abandoned country music in favor of rock. He has never forgotten his roots, as he showed on The Mountain, an album that he recorded with bluegrass musicians, but he has never recorded another album quite like Guitar town.
Steve wrote or co-wrote all the songs on this album, which contains two major country hits (the title track and Hillbilly highway), both up-tempo rocking songs, which are typical of the album's style. Steve shows that he can do ballads too - just listen to My old friend the blues, a song ... Read More:

British compilations of country music have greatly improved in recent years. Now, following the success of O brother, we have this amazing collection of 23 bluegrass gems culled from the Warners archive. You might look through the list of artists and think that some of them aren't bluegrass, but all the tracks included here qualify. In some cases, the chosen track may be the only piece of bluegrass they ever recorded, but if that gets the music to a wider audience, the bluegrass specialists will reap the rewards eventually - and some of them (including Ricky Skaggs, Delia Bell, the Cox family, Randy and Earl Scruggs) are included here.
I was already familiar with several of these tracks, though I suspect that for most people who buy this in Britain, every track will be ... Read More:

Gene Clark and the Byrds were really the catalyst for country music being taken more seriously than it had during the 60a.His first solo album was made with the Gosdin Brothers-who were not to see any chart action until Vern Gosdin in the next decade.
With Sweetheart of the Rodeo the Byrds went headlong into country music and probably invented country rock as urban met rural
The 2 albums as Dillard & Clark were not among the biggest sellers but are always going to sound better than the Eagles who are more a rock band.
This is the real deal
