after hearing the colplay clocks & as a big fan of cuban style music I couldnt wait to receive this album.
Firstly I was really really disappointed.....on first listening most of the songs sounded clumsy & badly matched with the cuban backbeats.Its like they took the original track & just put some cuban stuff over the top & didnt really "blend" it.
However after quite a few listenings (I was very determinded!!) I got used to it & grew to like some of them, although the U2 one just sounds wrong wrong wrong! I think the ones that work best are the totally cuban ones - the covers of well known songs done in a total cuban style

Plenty of others have written helpful summaries of the original album 'Frank', so my contribution is to provide a review of the new 'Super Deluxe Edition', packaged as a box set with a new 17-track bonus disc of 'previously unreleased radio sessions, rare demos and mixes'. This new edition is no doubt aimed mainly at dedicated fans, who will already own the album itself; the problem is that dedicated fans will also already own most of the 'rare' songs included here.

Of the tracks featured on the bonus disc, only a handful are genuinely 'new', and all but one have been heard before in some form. Admittedly, that one unheard song - a cover of the Gershwin classic 'Someone to Watch Over Me' - is absolutely gorgeous, truly sounding like it could ... Read More:

Have just been reminded that i bought this by the sad news that Lyttleton has passed away.
I first heard about Humph from a documentary on the Brecon Jazz festival and i ended up wanting to hear more. This is a good box set with a hell of alot of tracks making it great value and a fine introduction to British post war jazz.

The guy who in the 60s used to wind up the Press and tell anyone who asked that some song was about light bulbs or something seems to have suddenly acquired vast knowledge over the last 10 years at least.
Maybe he goes on Wikipedia a lot as some of the info he imparts is not exactly rooted in most peoples' brains.
Dylan though showed signs of what was to come in an album which was eternally slagged off-SELF PORTRAIT.
Remember that one-where he showed he was not averse to covering other peoples stuff.It suited me fine as I love cover versions.
Anyway Bob next time you do one of these can you include plenty of high school pop-you know Bobby Vee who once sacked you-and a few of the other Bobbies like the great Bobby Rydell.And not forgetting Fabian ... Read More:

Call Me Irresponsible Tour Edition

This is my favourite play at the moment, I guess that I am a little late in trying Mr Buble's music, but I am a convert. Think of a nicely warmed, quality single malt, good crystal glass, this is that smooth, just slides down, leaving a pleasant glow behind. Good in the car, great on the MP3 player, nice in the background during dinner with friends. This album has a great selection of tracks, well known classics of the genre, and others, new to me at least. Just try it!

Aman Iman: Water Is Life

Decidedly funky, a Jimmy Hendrix like lead guitar - you wouldn't believe Tinariwen comes straight out of the Sahara desert. This is an amazing record, sounding perfectly modern at times, only to remind you immediately of its roots.

What Yothu Yindi did for Australian aboriginal music, Tinariwen does for the Tuareg, fully embracing western instruments and using these to explore new angles on their traditional songs. Amazing, I repeat, amazing.
