As a long time fan of both Alison Krauss and Led Zeppelin, I was delighted to receive this album as a present. However, despite the obvious musicianship of both singers and their fine accompanists, Robert and Alison sound like two soloists rather than a duet to me, turning what might have been quite interesting material into something rather boring.

I must be getting old because I bought this after reading a review in the Grauniad!!! But no regrets here- it's fun, quirky pop that put me in a spring mood, probably because of the reggae/Afro rhythms that permeate the tracks. The most obvious comparison that sprang to mind for me was actually with the Beatles because, like a Beatles album, the tracks are all a bit original and eccentric.

after hearing the colplay clocks & as a big fan of cuban style music I couldnt wait to receive this album.
Firstly I was really really disappointed.....on first listening most of the songs sounded clumsy & badly matched with the cuban backbeats.Its like they took the original track & just put some cuban stuff over the top & didnt really "blend" it.
However after quite a few listenings (I was very determinded!!) I got used to it & grew to like some of them, although the U2 one just sounds wrong wrong wrong! I think the ones that work best are the totally cuban ones - the covers of well known songs done in a total cuban style

I'm not from the US, my family hail from Kashmir and I was born in the UK, grew up listening to punk rock but WOW! The soundtrack literally drips with the era and place it hails from; every time I hear a snippet I swear I can feel the heat and smell the wheat - so amazing!

The Imagined Village

Heard about this project a bit ago, but held back buying it till I had seen them live. WOW, now that was truly awe inspiring

Then I buy the album...and the ep...and the tee shirt.

The whole project works, on stage it is mesmerising, on record, spine tingling.

The stand out for me is the Benjamin Zephaniah Tam Lyn retelling, but the whole thing is a candidate for the best album I've bought this year by a country mile.

On a side note Paul Weller sounds absolutely brilliant on this album, man I hope he has a bit more of a stab at this sort of thing in the future.

You've Got A Friend: The Best Of James Taylor

This is a great album; as soon I listened to the first song I was hooked on this man, I listened to this cd for a month non-stop; his voice has something in it which I could never tire of hearing again and again; every song on here is a gem; Steamroller and Mexico spring to mind as two of the best on this cd; an utter joy to listen to anytime of the day.

I have read all the reviews of BLUE on this site and they all give 5 stars. This is only because there isn't a rating for "THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME". In the years since I first heard Joni's heartstrings crying out I have heard many other albums - some great - but they are all pretenders. Blue just pushes all the buttons, ticks all the boxes and speaks direct to the core.

I have loved karine Polwarts first two albums Faultlines and Scribbled in Chalk and she is great live and i was really looking forward to this new album. However, despite repeated plays i just cannot get in to it. Compared to the other 2 albums there is a lack of tunes and it is rather dull.It all seems a much of a muchness and all the tracks tend to sound the same. There are some good lyrics but it is ruined by the lack of tunes.If you are new to Karine i would stick with the first 2 albums identified above which are excellent and as for me i hope the next album is better.
