If your new to the delights of Nusrat, and have yet to make a purchase of one of his studio albums, most people (will quite rightly) point you in the direction of this studio album. As to whether it's the best thing he's put his name to, isn't entirely clear, but what is beyond doubt, is that this is the perfect starting point for anyone deciding to enter into his music. Its has the accessibility for newcomers, (along with the "Massive Attack" remix of Mustt Mustt, tagged onto the end of the album), as well as the possibility that some of his best known songs are here (increasing the possibility of you knowing a track or two), and enough distingushed performances all round, to...if not become his best album, certainly ranks alongside his best ... Genuinely beautiful, graceful, lyrical, calming. This is my favourite album of all time for good reasons. From John McLaughlin's wonderful opening chord, through the rippling Water Girl and moments of ecstatic musical discovery in Sunjog and Zakir. It's difficult to comprehend how the humble human being can create something so perfect and extraordinary. Truly inspired.

One of the reviewers refers to the music as adding to his collection of Indian classical music. If one were to draw the line dividing classical from 'pop' music, based on popularity, the review readers will be pleased to know that this music would be called 'pop' music.

The Vedic and other Hindu chants included in this record are a part of many Sanaatan-dharmi Hindu homes in their daily devotional routines.

Tracks 4 and 5 also form part of prayer in many schools in North India. 'Asato Maa' is a prayer to be led from falsehood to truth, darkness to light, death to eternal life, and hence suits the pursuit of knowledge. If you are a fan of all things asian, esspecially fusion and electronica, then this cd was made for you. Karsh Kale is a star and trancends the boundaries of style and aproach on this CD. Anoushka is a fabulous sitarist (learning from her famous father Mr. Ravi Shankar) and sows her skills throughout this album. The compositions are on another level as they flow seemlessly from Indian classical to rock and electronica. Sting is amazing as well. There are so man great guests on this album including Salim Merchant, the Midival Punditz and Anoushkas sister Norah Jones, even Ravi makes an appearancel. Both Shankar and Kale shine bright throughout this journey as they take us into the next paradigm of music.

Lullaby for the Moon: Japanese Music for Koto & Shakuhachi

The music on this CD is played on the Koto and Shakuhachi is beautiful as it is distinctive. The eight pieces are all brilliantly played and greatly atmospheric and it is difficult for me to choose a favourite as they are all great. This music gives a brilliant introduction to Japanese music and this CD would be a great addition to the collection of anyone interested in the music of Japan.

The music on this CD is played on the Koto and Shakuhachi is beautiful as it is distinctive. The eight pieces are all brilliantly played and greatly atmospheric and it is difficult for me to choose a favourite as they are all great. This music gives a brilliant introduction to Japanese music and this CD would be a great addition to the collection of anyone interested in the music of Japan.

The concept of travelling the world and creating an album based on various cultures is always going to be a tough thing to complete. All I can say is that Nitin Sawhney has pulled off this mountain of a project with breathtaking results.

The 15 tracks of 'Prophesy' display a highly interesting and diverse body of work, from a man with a real passion to produce something amazing.
From the uplifting opening 'sunset' Sawhney creates a wonderful soundscape through chilled out beats, guitar, Tabla drums and moving orchestral touches, it's an atmosphere followed equally by 'Nothing' string melodies conjure up amazing sci-fi vista's and rousing vocals create an ethereal world.
