The first thing I noticed about this album was how much poppier it was than her debut, but that's not a bad thing. Sure there will be those who cry sell-out with this album but that couldn't be further from the truth. KT manages to go full on pop and keep what made her great.
The album takes a while to get going with "Little Favours" and "If Only" managing to sound decent-good but without sounding special and seem slightly uninspired. The next track "White Bird" shows KT has not lost her way but again it is only a good song, nothing special at all.
The album finally comes into its own with "Funnyman" a brilliant pop songs which I loved from first listen, "Hold On" (the album's first single) is similar in that it's ... Read More:

I'd heard of Karine Polwart but never heard her perform until I spent £1.99 on the "That's Proper Folk" CD (or whatever it's called).
Possibly the best £1.99 I've ever spent, if only because it introduced me to this album.
Karine Polwart was head and shoulders the winner on that CD (and I'm a fan of Cara Dillon, so work that one out) with the track "Sorry". Which meant that I had to go out and buy this CD.
Worth every penny: there's clearly a trad-folk element running throughout this, whether it's the tunes or the lyrics, but with a definite modern flavour. Her singing is strong, with her accent a joy to hear (that's one of the great things about folk - no faux American accents), and this is a consistently rewarding ... Read More:

A decent compilation showcasing the depth of The Proclaimers' work. Only problem is that this re-issue is exactly the same as the previous Best of, but for the addition of the new version of 500 Miles. An extra three quid for a novelty track? I think not...

...they'd not be as good as "Hats"
The best of the best from the best. The sound may not be indicative of where Blue Nile are now - but the craftsmanship has always been consistent and is plain to hear.
From the four albums produced, I can't say it's always my favourite, as each one fulfils a different mood at a different time - but if forced to take just the one Blue Nile album, it'd be Hats.

This is the best album I've heard in ages! Being a collection spanning Jimy Somemrville's career, it is a real mixture of old favourites and some less well known tracks. To be played loudly at all times and singing along is a must.

I think some of the less favourable reviews have missed the point somewhat. I can't believe anyone bought this album having heard the singles and actually expected something serious, but there you go. Takes all sorts I spose.
Like The Mighty Boosh, Calvin Harris somehow manages to pull off the difficult trick of being very silly and very cool at the same time. That's what you're getting here, nothing more and nothing less. Dance snobs had best look elsewhere.

If you are familiar with Mogwai then you know how well they can put an album together. Young Team is no exception, far from it. Mogwai do not disappoint, listen to how well these God-like melodic breaths of music massage your thoughts and ears after a hard day and lead you into a sublime trance of relaxation. I am still listening for a third time and absorbing my favorites "like herod" and "summer". Enjoy!
