When songs are repackaged again and again we all know the music so of course it is the PRODUCT which then must be assessed as the first reviewer has . How good a product or collection is this ? Is the compilation worth having ? Only to people who have no Eddy Grant recordings on CD before perhaps . It is indeed another rip off well timed for release . It is not as good as other previous collections available . There are many songs not included here which would have made this edition of hits more worthwhile . I fully endorse and defend the first reviewer here .

This is a brilliant introduction for anyone who thinks Jamaican music begins and ends with Bob Marley. From the ska of Desmond Dekker ("Shanty Town") and The Maytals ("Pressure Drop" - later covered with less success by The Clash) to the more soulful efforts of the magnificent Jimmy Cliff (his three most classic tunes are included here, two of them twice for some reason), there isn't a dud track on offer. Possibly the finest reggae album of all time.

A fantastic album to finish off with by the original line up. Not a bad track on this album at all. Good vocals by Ali as usual and a good performance by the new additions to the group. Unlike one of the previous reviews, I think that " Slow Down " is one of the best tracks on the album. Great version of " I shot the Sheriff " and the Beatles " I'll be back." Sad to see Ali leave & good luck to him, he will go far. Good luck to the rest of the lads too as they will also do well with Maxi Priest and Duncan Campbell joining the group.
This album is well worth listening to. Probably one of the best in UB40's long & distinguished career.

This is my favourite of the 2 Specials albums. 'More Specials' is quirkier, but this is equally fun and more up-tempo. I love to leap around to this record at every oportunity, (much to the annoyance of my neighbours). I could wiffle on about all of the profound lyrics and such and Terry Hall's deadpan style, but once you buy this record then you will find out for yourself. Suffice to say that this record is well worth getting for your collection. If you like that 2 tone sound, then it really doesn't get any better than this. And at this price it is a steal!!!!

I had difficulties with this album due to the mix of rasta lyrics with pop tunes a strange mixture.
Having listened to Burning Spear, Abyssinians, Marley etc and other roots artists over the years, you know what your getting. Maybe its me who should think out of the box, dont know.
This album has reggae beats in the background and the SKA tracks work for me but the rest of the album leaves me cold.
I just feel it woud have been better to stick to one formula rather than trying to mix it up.

this was a big favourite of mine, growing up in the 80's and early 90's. this album is by far the best reggae collection of ub40's. i also bought the ub40 dvd which has a few others which do not feature on the collection. if you want relaxing, soul trippin music this summer, then i suggest this album. totally superb.
this is a must for anyone who not only likes ub40 but enjoyed the 80's and its music.

I couldn't give this five stars, because there are a few dud tracks on there. But at the price it is well worth the money, because there are loads of great tunes. In fact it is worth the cash just to get a copy of 'Rukumbine'. There is a groovy ska version of the James Bond theme, and a couple of minor key instrumental grooves that really get you dancing. Also 'A little oil in my lamp' is a great singalong ska version of a traditional song, with a gospel feel to it.
I don't know why they chose to start the CD with the Prince Buster tune which is more of a reggae style and not like the rest at all (although it's not a bad tune).

Saw the man himself at Glastonbury Festival 2003 and he brought the sunshine out and Jamaica to the people what a show. This CD is a fantastic collection of all his hits and you wont go wrong by listening to this on a hot summers day - you will have a smile on your face. This is about as uplifting as music can get.
