I've been a soundtrack enthusiast since I was a boy, and as with many who share my passion the Indiana Jones soundtracks have long been amongst the most beloved and yet still frustrating albums I have owned.
Of course, John Williams' classic mix of brassy heroism, muscular action and broad romantic motifs need no introduction - a perfect mix of 1930s musical idioms and contemporary pace and styling. But for so long we had to endure cut down selections on album, with so many great cues missing.
Admittedly the DDC/Silva reissue of Raiders did much to correct this for the first score, and the original Last Crusade album pushed the limits of the original CD release and felt moderately complete, but Temple of Doom was always ... Read More:

Coming just 2 years after Taylor's last album of covers songs (James Taylor at Christmas, itself a reissue of the 2004 Hallmark James Taylor Xmas Cd) and a year after the unplugged live album, this new album again highlights how indifferent Taylor's career has been. Once memorably described as a purveyor of counter culture melodies, Taylor never recaptured the heights of his Sweet Baby James album of 1970. The rest of the '70's saw Taylor settle into an easy pattern of having hits with other peoples songs whilst having very few self penned hits (and this guy was inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame??!!) Quite how he's managed to sustain a career over 40 years is anyone's guess but the guy must have some pretty good publicists who are to spin some rubblish ... Read More:

As a lifelong fan of JT (I grew up listening to his songs) I was gutted I missed the DVD of this set being shown on TV last week. I ordered this, and let me say this is excellent. If you are a fan of JT, get this, a great live album, and the DVD of the show, with insights into his past and family life, with his typically dry sense of humour, are magic to watch and listen to.

This compilation covers all the 13 A side singles & 7 of their B sides during or after their period. The music is a mix of Country, Rhythm & Blues & Rock & Roll with a dash of Hard Rock thrown it & the Country Funk "Down On The Corner". The reason I'm giving this 3 stars is the fact that I'm not that into Country Music which nearly half the selection sounds like on here. My other gripe is that not all the B sides are here. Then again this got released on vinyl in 1976. On the other hand with CD technology (80 mins) they could of re-released it to include all the B sides. If you are curious about this band (like I was) I recommend this as a starting point. If you are a Countryish fan you can add to more stars to mine.

A little late in the day to be sure sure but with good reason.
I wasn't sure I wanted to hear it but having bought the album
it then took me a good year to absorb its' wily charms.
'Shine' is a conceit of a sort you see.
The languidly marvelous orchestral excesses of'Both Sides Now' (2000)
and 'Travelogue' (2002) notwithstanding it has been almost
a decade since the last recording of new and original material and
'Taming The Tiger' (1998) could never be seen to have been a high point
in Ms Mitchell's long and illustrious career.
Having 'retired' from the business of strumming and singing in
2002 her muse lay dormant for a while but we can be glad that
she has set her paintbrushes ... Read More:

James Hunter previous album, "People Gonna Talk", remains a real gem of a record - wonderfully sharp songs, brilliantly played and exquisitely produced by Liam Watson. After a number years of hard graft and solid touring, Hunter and his band had delivered an exceptional record.
Fortunately, with all the success it brought, everyone went back to Watson's Toe Rag Studios and decided to do it all over again. It was a great formula, so why mess with it? So, much like its predecessor, "Hard Times" is a witty, intelligent record that repeatedly harks back to a different era but easily avoids being considered derivative or a pastiche.
The musical arrangements are skilled and effortless, Hunter's songs are smart and lyrics crafty - his vocals and understated guitar ... Read More:

Macca takes us back to that dream 1965-68 period with some magical Beatles quality numbers and as a bonus we get some vintage 1973/4 Band on The Run Wings thrown in. If "Chaos and Creation" was a return to song writing form then the down side was it was a bit too easy listening for me but here Macca gets the Rock guitars out again and the result is memories of the great years in music.
"Only Mama Knows", "End of the End" and "That was Me" are pure Revolver whilst the quirky "Mr Bellamy" is pure Sgt Pepper and "House of Wax " and "You Tell Me" the "White Album".
Wings kick off the Album with the single "Dance Tonight" and the superb harmonies of "See Some Sunshine" and they come back at the end a for a punky "Nod of the Head" but in between it's Beatle heaven. "That Was Me" is perhaps ... Read More:

It has been a long time coming but the end result is a quality product. My girlfriend and I listened to it for the first time on a long drive across Germany and Belgium and we liked it so much that we let it repeat several times. The melodies are good, the musicianship is first class and some of the political comment is very apt. he even nods in the direction of CCR a couple of times. Great stuff!
