I love all of Steven Wilson's work, and it is hard to say which Porcupine Tree album is my favourite, but this could well be it. Or stupid dream. None of them is any less than brilliant. However, if you have a 5.1 surround system (and if not, why not? I just got the amazing phillips system for only £99 and it's truly awesome) then this version of Deadwing is the way to hear it. In stereo the tracks are incredible. In 5.1 they will blow you away.
Get this. Get a 5.1 surround system if you haven't. Oh, and get EVERYTHING by Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, Bass Communion, and all of Steven's other projects. The man has the Midas' touch.

Without doubt you will know the music on this disc. The Four Seasons have been used in every area of film, television, advertisements, even hotel foyers. The popularity of this music has remained high for decades.

When music is so popular you have to tell yourself that it is well worth having a higher-definition sound - even if you do have previous stereo recordings. I have the Kennedy version and never listen to it - many of you will know why. This interpretation is much closer to the original (using modern instruments) and stands repeated listening. How wonderful to read all these amazing things about Rufus, I thought I was the only one who finds it amazing that he is so little known in mainstream music; Such a relief to hear Elton John & Sting & Neil Tennant, to name but a few, raving about him on this DVD - it is giood to realise that he is recognised among giants.
One thing, a reviewer mentioned the Easter Egg on the DVD - where is it & what is it?? Thanks.

Very nice surround transfer, at least as good as Night at the Opera

'Anotherone bites the dust' and 'Rock it' sound very vibrant, the beat is awesome. They can play at very high volumes and still sound clear and sharp.
I wish all DVDAs were that good.

Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 4 & 5 [DVD Audio] [DVD AUDIO]

This is a pretty good if not exceptional reading of these two symphonies. They're neither too stodgy, nor too crackling a la Norrington. Certainly way better than the overated Karajan recordings that we all have. And that would be good enough for me if the surround mix did justice to the performance. Superficially it's all very dynamic and exciting, very impressive at first listen. But it doesn't take long to realise that neither the subtleties of the performance let alone the details of the score are coming accross.

The best example of this, and it's a good tester of any performance, is the finale of the fifth symphony. The tempi are right, the phrasing and overall shape seem well-crafted. But the detail is missing. Towards the ... Read More:

After the slight rejuvination of Oasis that happened due to the release of Hindu Times it is great to see the lads from Manchester following in their own footsteps and working to cement themselves back at the top of British music. Songbird harks back to the earlier Oasis work, the likes of Don't Look Back In Anger and Slide Away are remembered as you listen to this. It is that I have been waiting for from an Oasis song, the ability to step away from the lacklusture Be Here Now and simply diabolical Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants, and remember the start of it all and how those songs touched you for the first time. A great song supported by better than average B-sides and a glut of early ninetys britpop memories. A resounding hit after so long.
