I buy dance compilations primarily to listen to good mixing between (good) tracks. The track selection on this package isn't awful, OK there are some tracks that perhaps shouldn't be there, but what annoys me slightly is the total lack of any careful mixing between tracks. Some transitions are as smooth as silk, whereas others are a simple fade down and fade up which all takes place in about 3 seconds, or just a crash edit, which I find defeats the point of buying an album such as this.
When will MOS return to letting actual named DJ's mix their output?

I agree with the reviewer below in that some of HK's recent releases have been slightly dodgy and appear to be cashing in on the rise in popularity of funky house music. Die hard fans have been complaining for months about the acquisition of the brand from ailing and tyrannical parent MoS, but it seems that the producers of this album have been given a more free reign to take HK back to its roots.
I'm glad CD1 wasn't reprasentative of the whole album, with lots of fairly commercial "heard it all before" tracks, only saved by decent mixing, however CD2 and 3 are subliminal. Never have Hed Kandi been this funky, the only comparison I can think of is HK: The Mix 50, another brilliant compilation. Tracks from Dervish, Bel Amour, Doc Da Funk, ... Read More:

I own both the Mash Up Mix 2006 and 2007 and have to say this is the weakest of the three but not by too much of a margin. CD1 is absolutely brilliant, with a voyage through so many house and garage genres. Fantastic beat throughout and really deserves five stars. However! CD2... oh dear. this is a complete mess and I think is only here as a kind of experiment (and of course if MoS offers 2 CD's it will always Look like better value than 1). If you like experimental music you'll love it, however if you hanker after the all round quality of the previous two installments, you might be disappointed.

It's a real grower, this album. When I first listened to it, I couldn't see what the fuss was about, really. It sounded just like another chill-out CD, albeit better than the others. But after repeated listens, I started to appreciate how accomplished it was. The mix is so seamless that you can't work out where one track stops and another begins. Basically, if this is a chill-out CD, then it pretty much redefines the whole genre. This is not about loosely stringing together some nice tunes; this is about sounds, tempo, and rhythm. Normally with a review, I'd point out the good tracks, but in this case it's pretty much irrelevant here. The tunes picked by K&D merely help them achieve the tempo and rhythm they want. Each tune has been masterfully tweaked ... Read More:

Having never been to Cafe del Mar and never buying any previous CdM compilations I had anticipated the usual reworking of the well-know tracks present on the multiple chillout CDs now on sale. Thankfully I was completely wrong - this is by far the best of the genre compilations and is all new work from established and new artists. The blurb states that the album is new work from known favourite artists (CD 1) and compilations of new work from any artist who submitted tracks to the CdM website and was then voted on for inclusion by over 80,000 listeners (CD 2 & 3). There is a heap of great stuff on this compilation and many artists new to me who I plan to start exploring.
Perfect for warm summer evenings outside and also to drift off to any time with a few ... Read More:
