I originally purchased this recording when it was first released on vinyl.
After seeing it offered at a bargain price on Amazon, I have re-bought it on CD.

It transfers superbly which is not a surprise really as the vinyl recordings were very well produced with excellent sound quality.

This type of music never seems to date and, after not listening to Manhattan Transfer of late, I am enjoying them all over again.

Great listening.

I'm a rock music fan really, but I'll try anything; labels say nothing about quality. It's tempting to say that MT are old-fashioned, but they are simply a brilliant vocal quartet who wander through every shade of music. This album harks back mainly to the 1930s, but there is one original song, the soulful, disco-oriented 'Clap Your Hands,' and a cover of The Chiffons' 1960s pop hit, 'Sweet Talking Guy.' They squeeze the juice out of melodies with pure harmonies and never miss a cue. The gentle sway and soar of 'Gloria' is a personal favourite, as is the charming 'Java Jive.' Songs and quality are great (as usual). That makes three M.T.recordings I have (re-)bought on CD lately after originally owning them on LP many moons ago. A class act.

Man Tran as they were known at the time of release weren't afraid to experiment which probably led to their unfortunate demise. This is an exceptionally brave diversion to their previous albums. Heading toward the next decade and yet still retaining the harmonies and sounds of the past. Twilight zone is unlike anything heard at the time. Excellent vocal and melody. Birdland, the first single released in the UK is a superbly produced tribute to Charley Parker and all the old jazz greats.Nothing you can do about it is a down and out great pop song. Back to old fashioned Man Tran with Trickle Trickle. Back again to future sounds with Coo Coo U. Mindblowing album. Ahead of its time no doubt. Buy it!

At last - a new album from take 6!!
No surprises here - Take 6 are THE band!
As usual tight harmonies, fantastic lead vocals and great songs. Unlike other Take 6 albums, however, this one is a collection of great classics such as Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready" and Stevie's "Love's in Need" instead of more original cuts, but it's still all delivered in Take 6's unique style. A must have for any decent Take 6 fan - but what makes this stand out as a serious project worthy of parting with cash, is the production courtesy of Marcus Miller. One couldn't really go wrong with this collaboration and as you would expect, the album is peppered with Marcus Miller's bass licks and his trademark bass clarinet. Sheer Brilliance!

First Affair/Voices in Fun

Everyone knows that "Four Freshmen and Five Trombones" was the youthful Brian Wilson's favourite album. I bought a copy of the old vinyl disc in the late 1970s, and wore it out listening to it, until I replaced it with a CD.

"First Affair", from the sound of it, also deeply influenced Brian Wilson. Recorded in 1960, its interesting instrumentation, with prominent harpsichord and woodwind (especially flute and bass clarinet), seems to have served as a template for the mid-1960s Beach Boys backings.
