I have only seen glimpses of the TV series, but no matter. This a wonderfully silly album combining very witty lyrics, with accurately observed pastiches of every genre of music.
The standout track initially is "It's partytime", in which a self-delusional "luvvaman" serenades his "wo'man". It's the last time I'll ever try to seduce my wife wearing just my black socks!
The other tracks bear repeated listening, and the joys of the wonderfully crafted lyrics are soon to be relished and enjoyed.

I'd recomend highly of not buying this CD, unless you intend to use it in a video (so that it isn't protected).
Why not buy the CD? Its a very good CD and film, yes, but the songs are 90% useless without the videos, like Beelzeboss. Beelzeboss is a rock off with Satan, with amazing dancing (in a sarcastic way) so, the video is kind of important for this and many others. I tried listening to Beelzeboss, didn't feel the same. There's not much point in buying it, unless ya gonna use it in a film of somekind. Best option for you is too download the videos off of google-video (this is still staying legal these options), purchasing off of Itunes or various other options you may find (perhaps filming it ya-self).

Never meant to be taken seriously, the Wurzels have nevertheless proved their longevity by keeping themselves busy making music over a period of more than forty years. For much of the time, they have been content to play local venues in Bristol and Somerset, but they have made an impact nationally (with a British number one hit) and internationally (with the same song becoming a Canadian number one hit). They actually scored hits with five different songs in the British charts. A re-mix of their biggest hit also charted. Wurzel music is difficult to classify. British stores such as HMV and Zavvi generally put it on the easy listening shelves, but I would say that the main influence is folk. The Wurzels like to call their music Scrumpy and Western, so perhaps ... Read More:

You don't get much for your money with this EP but what you do get is quality from the get go to the let go. If you've never heard Flight of the Conchords before this CD makes an excellent (if slightly pricey) introduction to the funniest novelty folk duo on the planet.
If you've already got the HBO TV series, buy the BBC radio series before you get this. It's almost as good as the TV show and you get a lot of Conchords for your money. But do buy this, it's just as good as anything else the Conchords have done and if you loved them on TV or on the radio you won't want to miss out.

... of buying three CDs of two men singing comic songs.
Don't be.
Flanders and Swann's "comic songs" are different from most. They have bite, wit, character, fire and - just below the surface - sometimes profound meaning. These are no "ordinary" comic songs.
Neither is Swann's accompaniment at the piano ordinary.

My husband is a driving instructor so I felt this CD was a "must have" gift for him.
We are both were familiar with Bob Newhart's brilliantly funny sketches from years back - once hard - never forgotten. It's not only what he puts into his sketches that are so funny, as what he leaves out, with well timed pauses skillfully setting the scene in the listener's imagination.
The Driving Instructor is a pure classic - I defy anyone not to laugh have until they have tears rolling down their cheeks. The Grace L Ferguson Airline (and Storm Door co) is brilliantly funny also, as is the Retirement Party and the Bus Drivers' School.
This is wonderfully funny humour which still works today and very cleverly constructed leaving so much to the ... Read More:

As a tiny lad in the late 60s I used to love Jake's tv appearances - I loved the sound of his guitar playing and his deadpan delivery and his vocals used to have me in stitches, though I couldn't have understood 99% of the lyrics! Then last year, four decades later, I read an article on the release of Jake's boxed set in Mojo magazine. Straight onto Amazon I ordered myself a copy of the Very Best of Jake Thackray. What a fabulous delight. I have since ordered another five copies which I've sent out to various friends, and here I am on Amazon again, ordering another three copies for further friends. Spreading the word. Jake, you're fab, unique and wonderful. There will never be anyone else like you. Wishing you were here.

Tom Lehrer is completely brilliant, and these songs that kept my parents laughing in the 1950s are just as relevant and entertaining today. The man is a wonderful musician and the musical jokes are as clever as the verbal ones. This CD is also excellent value with 23 of his finest songs for just £6.97. There's not a single duffer amongst them, which works out at a miniscule 30p per track. Unmatchable for laughs and value.

At last, quality reissues of all the Bonzos' albums - it's hard to believe this was the only one previously issued separately on CD. The Cornology box valiantly collected (nearly) all the previously available material into one place but these reissues are the real deal - superbly remastered and packaged, augmented with bonus tracks that are worth listening to more than twice, and featuring extremely droll sleeve notes by surviving joint chief Bonzo Neil Innes.
The Bonzos started in fine form with this classic, with all the main strands of their act - covers of 20s & 30s novelty tunes, surreal lunacy, merciless parodies of trad jazz and contemporary pop and rock and general musical comedic genius. Standouts are many, including Neil Innes's first (of many) Beatles parody, The ... Read More:

Not a bad CD. But The Wurzels seem to have jazzed up some of the songs, bit of a disco beat. My 7 year old thought they were good to dance to. Having said that they do sound good, but not what true Wurzel fans might expect. Some of the song I remember Adge Cutler singing, and thought Pete Budd's versions wern't as good. He seemed to be trying to sing them in Adge's style & personally thought that didn't work. If you prefer the Wurzels now then you will probably enjoy this CD. Fans of the older stuff, namly Adge, may not.
