These days, Ry Cooder is a musical novelist and I happen to believe that his format of album making is quietly revolutionary. Here is another great example of what a concept album should be like. Mysterious, Iconic, Intruiging and totally musical.
In an age where you select a few tracks of an album for a download, it's quite incredible that we have an artist who makes you realise what a lazy musical culture we live in.
It's time to wake up People !!! Music is still alive ...

Having heard the few audio teaser clips at the Dark Knight Score website, I knew I had to purchase this CD, and it definitely does not disappoint. There's a lot of electronic sounds in this score which may irritate purists, but it adds wonderfully to the tone and atmosphere of the music, making the film menacing.
Those who purchased the Batman Begins CD will recognise a few themes in this score, but they are not prominent and there is plenty of new material and themes. The tempo is also increased which puts you on the edge of your seat.
I am really looking forward to seeing this film, and the quality of the score bodes well!

'Buena Vista Social Club' is the Ry Cooder produced album of such melodic, harmonious, relaxed Cuban beauty. Each track transports you to another time and place and you honestly feel your cares drifting away as you listen to each song. From the wonderful album opener 'Chan Chan' to the infectious 'El Cuarto de Tula' and the delightfully mournful 'Dos Gardenias' and more, this album throws up delight after delight. Ry Cooder may have brought this amazing music to a wider audience, but it is the talent and passion of the musicians that shines through. A beautiful album that deserves a place in any music collection. Well worth a try.

I had to write a few words to offer a counter view to the guy who shows a complete lack of creative understanding of this album's raison d'etre. As for the comment about it being for, 'nostalgic, over 60's American males', well if you liked the recent Coen Bros movie, 'No Country for Old Men' then you'll understand the sentiments expressed through this music.
This is a masterpiece of understatement and contains some all time classics. 'Can I Smoke in Here' and 'Flathead One More Time' are condensed movies that create their own quirky mis-en-scene with believable, fleshed out characters, lamenting the onset of old age and the changes that are a comin'. There is an air of hedonistic abandon and black humour in some tracks, desperation and melancholy ... Read More:

Fantastic soundtrack. As a writer looking for inspiration for film music, this has to be one of my absolute favourites. Buy it now!
Release Date April 02, 2001
Classic soundtrack. This album has everything. Kenny Loggins establishes himself as the master of powerful, catchy 80s cheese with the immense Danger Zone and fun-as-you-like Playing With The Boys. Berlin's Take My Breath Away is possibly THE greatest ballad of all time. Harold Faltermeyer's Top Gun Anthem is about as moving a piece of music can be. A must have.

This product description is wrong. The track 19 "Still Here" that is listed in the product description does not exist. There are only 18 tracks on this CD. This is identical to the US soundtrack, thus rumors of the two versions being different are false.
This is a typical Rocky soundtrack, with every single track on the entire CD being a butchered remix that sounds nothing like the one that appeared in the movie. Every Rocky soundtrack to date has been like this. The Rocky 4 songs sound terrible as usual. You have dialog mixed into the audio tracks, so you get to listen to Rocky's voice every single time. Cringe-worthy.
When are they going to come out with a Rocky soundtrack that is NOT a "remixed" or "arranged" version?

If you have never listened to minimalist music this should be your point of departure. I have played this CD to the unsuspecting, as background music, and in the process won over the even the most ardent sceptics.

After hearing/reading/listening to this album absolutely spellbound, I was left with tears in my eyes as the final song, "There's a bright side somewhere", was playing. The brilliant musicianship, the simplicity of the music, and the expression of hope in this whole album, touched me so deeply. And that's what I want from Ry Cooder: to hear him and enjoy the sound, but also to identify with him, and to be taken on his journey with him through each and every one of his recordings. I can always trust him to speak directly to me through his music. "My Name Is Buddy" is no exception. Thanks Ry Cooder for being true on your journey, and giving me a legacy of music that never dissappoints as long as my ears, mind and heart are open to receive.
