I'll admit, im a 'fan' of NIN (I stayed up until 5:30 in the morning waiting for this album to arrive) and i must say, given the nature of ghosts and year zero i didnt really know what to expect, except the two tracks from the album i'd already heard
...I was extremely impressed.
I own just about every halo (including DVD's and singles) and this is by far up with my favourites.
Ill start off with its musical style: it starts off with a track much like one you would find on GHOSTS, haunting and dramatic, but its the way it bleeds into my favourite track of the album, 1.000.000, that gets me everytime, its with 1.000.000 that this album begins as a work of art. The music itself is very new sounding compared ... Read More:

I think this is brilliant - you really can see the nine inch nails in it. It is all intrumentals, so unfortunately no vocals or anthems here, but still not to be missed. This is music that is easy to get lost in, so amazing for relaxing, but it does have really nice melodies and tunes across the tracks.
Overall, as slightly peculiar offering, but not one too be missed once you have listened to most of their other albums and liked them. If you're in that position, this is unmissable for 36 tracks of raw trent reznor, for a very low price.

Released only two years after comeback album With Teeth, Year Zero is a concept album set in the future with a guest apperance from his new buddy Saul Williams.
The album is not for the faint of heart so fall out boy fans can stop reading now you wont find any ready made coporate radio rock here.
From the opening of hyperpower the album never lets up and features some of Reznors heaviest work to date before ending peacefullywith zero sum.
If your a nin fan get this now, if your not do yourself a favour and get it to futher your music education.

Never having considered listening to Rammstein before - what use could I have for German industrial metal after all? - I was sparked into doing so by getting the "Emigrate" album, by the guitarist in the band, Richard Kruspe. I am very glad I did. I can't add any new revelations to those listed below. Listen without prejudice and prepare your wallet for some action!
Release Date March 01, 1994
I first got the album on cassette not long after it came out in 1994 at the age of 14, and I am not ashamed to say I was pushed towards it by seeing NIN tracks on beavis & butthead!!
At the time, I think I was listening to Jesus Jones, Blur, some metal, Megadeth, Anthrax etc. Putting it on in mother's car on the way back from town I think it nearly made her crash it. Mr Self Destruct was a nasty piece of work to say the least, but now it just seems the norm. Then we had Piggy, not a bad little slow one. By the time we got to Heresy, I think it got turned off to be "listened to at home".
Anyway, that's enough sentimental rubbish, this album has stood the test of time, definitely. Don't get me wrong, I still dig the hard Depeche style ... Read More:

Soldiers Of Misfortune is as epic and poigniant as anything the erstwhile Irish fellas have put out in recent years. The rest of the album is stonking. If NIN could have kept this guy, their recent creative output might have actually been worth listening to...

First off,I was worried with You'll Rebel To Anything that MSI were beginning to sound a little like Marilyn Manson, especially with Straight To Video. So thankfully, for me, IF is back to the quirky MSI I know and love from the Frankenstein and Tight albums. The songs are nothing new for the band then, but personally I wouldn't want a new sound from them. They are an amazing and unique band!!And yes Revenge, Uncle and Bomb This Track are not exactly brand new material to older fans, that's the main reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5. But you are still left with enough new material, and the remixes thrown in, to make a great album. So go buy it and enjoy the originality and stupity of Jimmy and co. They are making music that is entertaining, interesting and nuts, which ... Read More:

In my younger days when PHM and TDS were doing the rounds i was purely into rock and had no taste for electronica, and never really discovered i actually liked NIN til the last couple of years. By the time i heard With Teeth tho i was much more familiar with the bands other material, and so i was left with the impression that this album wasn't a brand new studio album in its own right but more a collection of outtakes taken from the PHS, TDS and The Fragile sessions, re-recorded/remastered for With Teeth.
Reznor's undeniable genius is evident in a few of the tracks; the title track With Teeth and Right Where It Belongs being my particular favorites, alot of the material harkens back to the previous different eras of NIN so strongly i was just left with the feeling that ... Read More:

Bought this album on a whim, after bumping into it on here and seeing all the positive reviews. Very glad I did. It's surprisingly melodic and great to drive to. The only low point (for me) is Amerika which, because it's partly sung in heavily accented English, sounds a bit Eurovision. That apart it's fascinating stuff that bears repeated listening. If you've never bought music like this before don't be put off. I've immediately ordered most of their back catalogue.

As you'll have gathered a mixed review - if you like the heavy, 'rolling riff' stuff (mobscene etc) chances are you won't like this. It's the cathartic result of manson's recent and well publicised split with Dita - but it it any good? Hmmmm, it's a touch patchy between not great but even worse a bit dull. Surprising that in the light of such emotional upheaval it sounds so uninspired in places. It'll need a second play and, though there are one or two tracks which shine ('you and me and the devil makes three' is probably the best), after droping the select few to your ipod it could be a while till the other tracks get a spin. Of course, artists are free to do what they want and I still like his music, I just prefer the other stuff he does....
