Their debut was stunning - there's no denying it. Mixing power, fury and at times comic instrumentation and vocals, it was always going to be a hard album to beat. But System have done it. Toxicity is an amazing album.
For those that dismiss Toxicity as 'too commercial' or 'too mainstream'. To make accessible music that still has the power and strength that nearly all of the tracks on this CD have takes a great deal of skill. How to make music sound not only familiar but also brand apsnking new and still like it has something incredibly important to say is the sign of master songwriters. And Toxicity has all of that in bucketloads.
The melodic pain of singles Chop Suey, Toxicity and Aerials counter the deliciously ... Read More:

This album is worth 4 stars easily for the standout tracks, which raised Anthrax above many of the thrash bands of the day. The album came out when people were buzzing about 'Thrash' and Metallica and Anthrax graced the cover of Kerrang. There were a few big bands, some harder ones, and some serious rubbish, but Anthrax were different enough to stand out.
Joey Belladonna's vox were one of the things that did this, his style being more rock based and more flexible than many bands of the time(Metallica, Megadeth, Kreator, Exodus, Suicidal Tendencies to name just a few), but the band still sounded harder than than the hair-bands. The playing is as tight as a Gnat's chuff, with some fantastic metal\punk drumming from Charlie Benante (who always ... Read More:

When everyone (including myself) got caught up in the sheer excellence of S.O.A.D's album Toxicity.. I saw this in a shop and bought it. I immediately decided that this was superior to Toxicity, but nobody else seemed to have given it a listen and/or thought that Toxicity was there first album!
But now everyone seems to have discovered this genius album and to this day i still see this as their best!

Every metalhead should of heard the classic title track Cowboys From Hell Right? This album is a brilliant metal album not a bad track on it great riffs and solos and awesome vocals, bass and wicked drumming. This is a must have for every metalhead, if you think this is an awesome metal album check out Vulgar Display Of power that's even better. The best tracks are Domination, Cowboys From Hell, Primal Concrete Sledge & Heresy. A must buy a classic. R.I.P Dimebag.

is there another album cover that screams 'vulgar display of power'?
unlike many other bands, who's 2nd album seems to flop dearly, Pantera's second album (or 6th, if you count the self-relased ones), is metal at its most powerful, devestating, and angry state. Songs like Mouth for war, Walk, This Love (absolutely NOTHING to do with the Maroon 5 song of the same name, thank you very much), and a new level have monster riffs and vocals; but the entire album is listenable without skipping any songs. Phil Anselmo's voice without the high pitched wails suits the music well.
if you like the watered down 'metal' of today (i.e. avenged sevenfold, trivium) you will probably think it too angry and heavy. However, if you like Megadeth, MEtallica, Machine ... Read More:

I have just purchased megadeths greatest hits from amazon and what a collection of total masterpieces they are.
I have listened to megadeth for about fifteen or so years and have heard every song over and over but despite that this collection is proof that theyre music stands the test of time.
Most of the songs have been remastered and the clarity and punch of every beat hits you in the face when turned up.
The best thing about this compilation is that every song one after the other are good and work well until the end, not like some comps you get when half the songs tend to be skipped, you can leave it to play and its cool. so from a total fan from me to you" BUY BUY BUY IT "

If you are looking to buy your first megadeth album then look no further the album has killer written all over it. Megadeth second album and it's a huge step up from Killing Is My Business. The vocals, solos, riffs, dumming everything has improved so much. No best they all rock and i dont see why people dont like I aint superstitious sure it doesnt go with the album but it still rocks. This is a must have in every thrash metal/Metal fans collection. Ignore any negative comment and buy without hesitation. Dave Mustaine You rock.

I agree that this album is not the band's best. There are so many more fantastic metal albums to buy. It is heavy alright but it lacks either strong melodies or top quality rhythm. The vocal track is over the top and the rest doesn't gel. "Vulgar display" is hugely better. In all honesty I find this album difficult to listen to, making me feel a bit like my old mum - yet I have a collection stuffed with Sabbath, Megadeth, Mettallica, Slayer etc. You will be told to turn this down/off - but in such circumstances it is better to have a sense of incomprehending indignation (as if for example you are playing "Vulgar Display") rather than honest agreement. Not for the casual fan. 3 stars? well it is heavy...

if you were to look up industrial metal in the dictionary you should see a picture of this album as it easily the most appropriate band to fit the name as most other industrial acts seen to emphasise the electronic elements it is used here to sharpen a very heavy metal sound.
in effect what we have here is a death metal album with electronics and as such there was nothing like it at the time of release and there still isn't much that can match it to this day.
the thing is that it excells everywhere! from the glorious stabbing riffs that litter the whole album or the superhuman drumming ............. but probably the best part is the mesmerising performance that comes out of burtons mouth!
this guy has a voice that most vocalists would kill for!
the guy can roar and growl with ... Read More:

After their slightly patchy debut album and a change in personel, Anthrax's secnd album is undeniably a classic of the thrash genre. Most fans will point to 'Among the Living' as the band's defining moment, but it's really hard to find any fault with this 1985 offering, as from the opening moments of 'A.I.R.' the album spews out a seemingly endless collection of killer riffs, while new vocalist Joe Bellandonna's melodic vocals provide numerous catchy choruses. 'Spreading the Disease' ranges from such relatively melodic songs as the insanely catchy 'Medusa' and 'Lone Justice', which at times sounds almost Iron Maiden-ish, to the full on thrash of tracks like 'Gung-Ho' and 'Aftershock'. The band themselves have at times stated a despair at being unable to escape 'Madhouse', but with a song this strong it's ... Read More:
