Whatever people tell me about the ramones: i always say that these guys defined punk music. Still today The Jam is a classic band that will always have a place in my album collection. This CD however is overdoing everything. Punk rock albums are usually very short and having to listen to 20 songs that do all sound extremely simmilar can get tedious. More than this I believe that punk bands very designed for live performances: they had a great attitude to live acts which made them amazing to listen to. The CD takes the heart out of this genre and for that i mark it down. Also there are a few songs could have done without.

Forget all the hype & rubbish that surrounded the Sex Pistols & remember that this album changed music. The reason is that it simply is a truly great album.
I have owned it for nearly 30 years & it is still an album that is exciting to play.

If you could distill rock music all the way down to it's most basic essence then you'd probably end up with something similar to this. From it's sheet metal production to Iggy's yelps and trills this album is rock in it's most purest form.
This record, though, is about more than sound. A feeling is generated by this record, a feeling that starts somewhere in your abdomen and shoots up to your chest and back down again. If these songs don't make you want to rip off your top, grab your crotch and scream then you are dead inside. Catnip for the soul.

An utterly fantastic collection.
The Buzzcocks were masters of those three minute soap operas (on black vinyl)that we used to spend 99 pence a throw on back in the seventies.
They started as part of the punk movement, but went on to go beyond this, practically inventing the concept of power pop on their own with tight singles with great tunes and a good dose of camp.
Most of the Buzzcocks albums were bitty. This great collection represents them at their best. No filler guaranteed!

The first New York Dolls album is a fun collection of rock n' roll songs, but it really suffers from a lack of low end. The bass is almost inaudible even on my super bass heavy home stereo. That concern aside, what you're left with is an otherwise nicely produced record, with some well executed and fun ideas. The only real negative is the phase effect on the drums in "Vietnamese Baby".
Most of the songs on the record are based around that rhythm guitar style that Chuck Berry made famous, and that you'll hear on a lot of Status Quo records. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of it. Nor am I a fan of the Rolling Stones, and there's a definite nod in that direction. You have to admire the Dolls' attitude though, and their ear for a good chorus. In ... Read More:

The Stranglers were regarded by some as bandwagon jumpers, though they were among the first of the new wave bands to hit the upper reaches of the singles and album charts. Those accusations had something to do with age and occupational history, though it was also obvious that they had far more musical ability than the likes of The Clash or The Banshees.
With JJ Burnel's emphatic bass and Dave Greenfield's thrilling keyboard runs standing out, 'Rattus' is an exhilarating musical experience. Hugh Cornwell's affected and provocative vocal delivery also gives the band an identity. The lyrics are a different matter. Articulate, confrontational, often tasteless and offensive, they set the tone for the band's ongoing conflicts with the objects of their rants. On ... Read More:

The best songs on this CD are Jimmy Jimmy, My Perfect Cousin and the superb Teenage Kicks, which as the late John Peel said is probably the best pop song ever written.
The Undertones showed that punk wasn't just about thrashing and spitting - they wrote and played good tunes and knew how long a song should last and how to finish it with a flourish.

Let me take you back to the days before this iconic album was released. The whole british music scene was giving a right royal boot in the jugglees circla 76-77. The punk movement in Britain had exploded causing massive social and political shockwave to reverberate thru the fixed class structured british system. The Government of the day were faced with the British youth suddenly having a powerful voice, as well as having a mean to communicate their viewpoint and anger. The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Jam et al. seem to be singing about all aspects of British mainland life. However, I remember coming home from school eating my evening meal in front of the TV. Night after night after night, reports would flash into our living rooms about the latest killings, shootings, ... Read More:

Both the single and album, 'No More Heroes,' were eagerly gobbled up by punk fans already familiar with the band's exhilarating mix of brutal bass and keyboard runs. While the single gained a unanimous thumbs-up as did the other hit, 'Something Better Change,' the album took some criticism for being a pale rehash of The Stranglers' debut effort. In truth, some of the lyrical content is too obviously rude for the sake of it, but the band still had some imaginative ideas, notably 'Dead Ringer,' 'Dagenham Dave,' and 'Burning Up Time.' 'School Mam,' which finishes the album, is almost vaudevillean, if tasteless. Bonus tracks bolster the album, however. The cannibalistic vision, 'Straighten Out,' is a superb b-side, while both sides of the inexplicably forgotten hit, '5 Minutes' are also here. ... Read More:
