Being a fan of Mike's for longer than I care to remember, I looked forward to this much heralded album.
However, the arrangement has echoes of the past (Tubular Bells?), and, simply, sounds like a film score.
There is nothing inherently bad about the album, it just doesn't move me.

There are few musicals with so many great numbers as Oliver!: 'Consider Yourself'; 'You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two'; 'As Long As He Needs Me'; 'Reviewing the Situation'....the list just goes on and on. Lionel Bart never wrote a better musical (and I'm not sure anyone else did). It's now an incredible bargain at Amazon's current price of under £3-00. Some people prefer the stage recording (there are some odd balances in this, the film recording, but they don't detract from the pleasure) ; but for sheer joy and wonderful orchestral arrangements, you should snap this up.

i too am a fan of nigel kennedy , but this recording doesnt do anything for me though as ever it is exceptionaly well played...but the combination of "modern" bits in among the classical music only distracts me..i like one or the other but if you are more adventurous than me,i highly recomend it!

My favourite Karl Jenkins work has to be 'The Armed Man', however, I do also enjoy this new work very much. It has a range of different moods and transports the listener from one side of the world to another. Loads of classic Jenkins in this music, you can hear some of the inspiration coming from some of hie earlier works. However you can also hear new ideas and influences from his travels to Eastern Europe.

Overall, a very moving piece of music, one that I am sure will become very popular.

I have this CD on constant repeat! The music is so varied but holds your attention every step of the way. Bocelli's voice is one you just have to fall in love with. His "Romanza" is 1 of my favourites but "Vivo Per Lei" has me hooked also. GET THIS CD!!!!!!

Jenkins: The Armed Man - A Mass For Peace

I wasn't keen on Adiemus, and wasn't expecting to like this, though I had heard bits on classic fm that grabbed my attention (while working with the radio on).

However, I do find this enjoyable from start to finish, skipping over the muezzin's prayer (which I could hear out my window in certain locales). Maybe it is not complex, but there are surprising moments and there is plenty of passion throughout.

Obviously this is something that splits opinion, so I must be a prole. Yes, I even like Andrew Lloyd Webber at times. But then I also listen to Arvo Part, to Tavener and others in abundance, alongside the likes of Ali Farka Toure and Santana (in his prime), so... This Classic FM compilation released in 2005 with the intention of relaxing the baby offers a good selection of calming music for babies and their mothers too.

Entirely classical music based - including Einaudi's popular piano piece '(La) Onde' - this is a nice relaxing CD, most of the tracks of which should be familiar to those with only a passing interest or limited knowledge of classical music.

Although now superseded by the more recent 2CD version of 'Classic FM Music for Babies' this still looks good value for an hour of relaxation.
