I'll start this review with a) a confession and b) a confession.
a) I have never heard Portishead's self-titled second album. I'll rectify this sometime soon.
b) I'm somewhat wary about writing my first online music review and giving the subject the maximum score available. But, my god, this record deserves it.
This is something that I've been contemplating for a while now. What makes an album great? Does every track have to be excellent? Or does it simply have to take you on a great journey? Or must it do both?
The signs point to the third answer. And the third answer is fitting of Third.
I can only imagine how long the 11 years since their last studio album have seemed to the ... Read More:

Totally amazing, one of the greatest albums ever made. Dark, brooding, with awesome scratching, beautiful and unsettling singing and, in my opinion, superior to Dummy. Love driving at night or smoking at home to this absolute classic. You'd be a fool not to hear it.

Imagine my surprise when I heard Estelle's new single American Boy; how in the hell did she drag Kanye West into the proceedings...? And then get him to rap about Ribena and WAGS? Little did I know that John Legend had taken a, ahem, shine to Estelle, signed her to his label and the rest is, as they say, history.
And it's a history few would have predicted given her first album's failure (it only scraped the top 40) and dare I say that Estelle herself might never have imagined the day where Mark Lamarr would be replaced by Kanye West in her video's...
You can't ignore the Kanye effect; last November, the single release of Wait A Minute failed to even trouble the Top 100, and it's difficult to imagine one of her non-collaborations would have ... Read More:

WOW!!!!! i've now been to see step up 2 twice since it came out and i loved it both times!!!! It's fantastic - same may say it doesn't have a good story-line but who cares!?!? It still ace and the dancing is fantastic! It just makes you wanna go there and watch them for real!!!

I am always going to be bias when it comes to Kanye as I personally believe he is a genius when it comes to his lyrics and songs, but even if I wasn't I would have to say that Graduation is possibly one of the greatest albums of 2007, and its not hard to see why it outsold 50 Cent. Favourite tracks for me are "The Glory", "Stronger" and "Homecoming".
Graduation is another brilliant example of why Kanye West is one of the most recognised men in the music world. He has definitely moved away from the Rap genre in which he used to be associated with and has instead created his own unique style of music. The album is possibly not as catchy as "Late Registration" but it is more creative and brings in new sounds and a new style and leaves your mouth watering for a fourth ... Read More:

Other reviewers have said it all - I just want to clarify a couple of things
1) A couple of tracks here are not the same performances as on the companion video. One of them, Roads, was recorded at a festival (and certainly sounds like it!). The other - well, read on...
2) None of the tracks on this album deserve to be damned with the faint praise of "faithful reproduction of the originals". For one thing, they're all loud and vivid-sounding, with a fine balance of ambience and clarity (and this makes a particular difference to the second-album material - Cowboys is a speaker-blaster!). Elsewhere, Mysterons and Strangers have extended codas; Half Day Closing (with all its vocal processing intact) ends with a strange `Liberty Bell'-like sample (!); most importantly, ... Read More:

I couldn't wait to listen to this new album - but after the first play I really didn't like it at all and was pining for the excellent St Elsewhere album. In fact I couldn't find a single track which I liked - although of course the incredible layers of production and imagination are still very much present in this new album.
So I left it for a day or so and then realised that it had started to work its way into my subconcious. It's safe to say I'm pretty obsessed with "Going On" and "Run" and can't stop playing them. That's the odd thing sbout the Odd Couple - the more you play it the more you get to know it and to like it.
I'm still getting to know this album a week after buying it.
For me - it's a much more "grown up" album - loads of moody dark Cee Lo lyrics and my ... Read More:
