Ok, I love the Thriller album, it's an absolute classic, the first 9 songs on this album are worth the purchase alone if you don't already own them ... BUT ... the remixes? Yeah, I quite like the girl is mine 2008 and P.Y.T 2008, the Billie Jean remix is ok but Kanye should keep his mouth shut with his yeahs and stuff but the Wanna be startin' something mix? WTF is that all about? This is a Michael Jackson album and he only sings one verse on the whole song, is Akon so desperate to make his name that he's got to steal Michael's glory on a Michael Jackson album? On first listen I was bit disappointed - but I kept at it, and sure enough the grooves started to register, and in time nearly every track was etched on my brain. Really a very strong album indeed - not quite 5 star as there a one or two weaker tracks - but overall a cracker. "Love, Joy and Understanding" is an absolute stand out. A real return to form - right up there with the superb "Eleven".

If you like some classic soul eg Marvin, Curtis, Aretha, Al Green etc then this is an essential purchase. Also if you like the quality end of modern RnB like Alicia Keys or John Legend then this is also essential. There are no bad tracks here. 'Living For The City' is probably the greatest of Stevie's social commentaries. Alot of listeners today don't appreciate how amazing Stevie Wonder was in his prime, I'm too young to have heard him during the 70s and if I hadn't just trusted all the platitudes I probably would never have discovered him!. I just thought of Stevie Wonder as being the guy who did 'I just Called To Say I Love You' but that was the end of the creative period. Have the vinyl. Now got the CD and its still timeless. I have many favourites. Love "I am singing" this sums up stevies life in music.
The song writing is 1st class. in my view far better than Lennon/Mccartney ever were. This guy does the lot himself. This album should be in every collection. best selling double album of all time, i believe. Well justified.

Miles From India - A Celebration of the Music of Miles Davis

This double CD represents a large project with numerous musicians, in a number of combinations, and playing a number of Davis's more popular compositions from the 60's and 70's. So admittedly it is difficult to take in just in one go. Whilst rating it as "good/3 stars", Miles From India has not instantly become one of my favourite Indo-jazz fusion albums or likely to be. Why: because of a number of petty annoyances it carries with it, neither does it have the degree of integration of two distinct musical styles, and instead the joins show on a number of tracks.

So I offer a number of questions and observations:

Talking Book

After the superb Music Of My Mind, Stevie kicks things into high gear here with Talking Book. This is one of those albums where an artist is at the top of their game and every song is great. If I was gonna skip one it would maybe be track 2 which does go on longer than it needs to, but who can argue with the quality of songs such as 'You Are The Sunshine Of My Life' , 'You And I', 'Big Brother', 'Tuesday Heartbreak', 'I Believe When I Fall In Love' and of course the mighty 'Superstition'. On this album Stevie shows he can produce beautiful ballads, great funk numbers and biting social commentary. If you get this album you'll have one of the greatest rnb/funk records ever recorded. This album is quality and one of the funkiest I have heard in many a year. Quite difficult to describe, if you like The Quantic Soul Orchestra then you will definitely like this. Great beats, excellent production, very catchy tunes, top quality vocals. On the sleeve notes it says that it says a lot of the music was recorded with real musicians rather than samples, and I think you can really hear this, there is definitely a freshness about the music and quality of sound. Great album, you cant help but want to dance to it.
