Fell in love from the first note. Beth has an amazing voice which really shines out on the track "Coal to Diamonds". Definetly a buy!

My first experience of Leslie Feist was the excellent 7/4 Shoreline with the Broken Social Scene collective - a storming avant-garde Canadian new wave classic. So this album was a surprise. Everyone has seen the classic Ipod commercial however that quality of all of the tracks here was astounding. It's obviously her beautiful voice which is most captivating - it is as pure and smooth as cream and it makes even the most mellow 'close-up' Brazilian samba crooner sound raw. It is soothing and serene and is truly beguiling. It is simply beautiful. The obvious hit is her reworking of Inside and Out - the minor hit for the Bee Gees - and she brings out the sheer quality of the songwriting. And she does the same for her own material which is always ... Read More:

I bought this item on the strength of a couple of favourable reviews and a fondness for the Moldy Peaches, but nothing prepared for me for how much I would love it. An album I can just put on 'repeat' and listen to over and over... Like all the gentlest and most heartfelt moments of the Moldy Peaches concentrated in one sustained burst of quality accoustic songs. The tunes are lovely, and the lyrics are the sort you take to your heart, covering things from the fear of death for our loved ones, to dealing with low self-esteem, to a stinging criticism of America's response to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Anyone with a love of quality songwriting should find something to love in this album.

Only today did I find out that No Age were a two-piece. Sadly enough the reason for this was because I had a sudden urge to make one of the songs off of 'Nouns' my myspace profile song - in order to spread the word I guess. Because now that I find out No Age are just a two piece (even though a little more careful listening would have worked this out), they mean so much more. And 'Nouns' is so much more of an achievement.
The melodic drone/noise that lifted itself so proudly from debut 'Weirdo Rippers' has found its way once more on the follow-up. With 'Weirdo Rippers', the artwork was taken of the studio in which it was recorded in, No Age were just a band releasing a debut record. But now they're fitting into their new clothes and discovering that the ... Read More:

I've wanted this since seeing their barnstorming rendition of "Standing in the Way of Control" (SITWOC) on the tele from Glastonbury 2007 and while the album didn't quite get to that level (how could it) it was a joy to listen to.
They've a clean raw sound (not over produced) I really liked. The bass line is dominant through the record and often gives it a funky, pop and fun undertone that makes it a bit different. Drums and guitar give the song some rock oomph and, while voice quality is not always important for me (i.e. The Smiths and The Wedding Present), what a voice Beth Ditto has to give the songs an extra slice of quality and big dollop of passion.
If you mix up a fair bit of The White Stripes and their overall sound production, the ... Read More:

this album ios truely the nuts. all of the songs are really catchy and addictive. the album seems to be pieced together like a jigsaw it fits perfectly.
1- devil's haicut 9/10: Nice little tune. catchy and a good start
2- hotwax 9/10: Little bit country, little bit slower but once again a tasty little beat
3- lord only knows 10/10: really country. the sort of song you can hang out with...while you downshiftin' the 18 wheeler!
4- New pollution 10/10: becks most likeable song. an instant hit. i could groove around for hours with this pup!
5- Derelict 10/10: Much slower. but a song that helps make the album so beautiful
6- Novacane 8/10: A bit mental. but very enjoyable
7- Jack-ass 9/10: the most perfectly composed song on ... Read More:

The Shins make great pop music. All of the songs on this album have a bright, catchy appeal. They are laid back but refreshingly original. My particular stand-out tracks are Caring is Creepy, Know Yr Onion!, New Slang, Girl on the Wing and Pressed in a Book. The only one I skip is the befuddling Your Algebra.
As well as the quality music, James Mercer's lyrics are a delight in themselves. Lines like 'a luscious mix of words and tricks' or 'no icicles stuck in my hide' show what an inventive lyricist he is. A pity you cannot always discern the words in the songs, but the CD jacket has them printed.
Chutes Too Narrow is the more accessable album so you may want to start your Shins experience there, but this is still amazing and well worth your money.

'Our Endless Numbered Days' is another beautiful album from Iron & Wine. It is along the same lines as 'The Creek Drank The Cradle', but where as that album was one man and his guitar, this album creates the same feel with more musicians and instruments. Saying that, it still has that bare, open and melodious feel to it, just augmented in all the right places. This is great to sit back and drift away to, the music washes over you and makes you engage with it. Like all the albums, it gets better with repeated listening and this will soon become another integral part of your music listening life. Well worth a try.

Bought from my local independent shop two weeks ago and I must admit I really didn't like it.....nothing stood out, seemed boring.....but after 10 plays it becomes a pastoral, yearning, summer days epic..... Bit Flaming Lips, bit Grandaddy, bit Wilco, bit Fleetwood Mac.....
Tremendous......but dont play it to your friends expecting them to like it...
