'Pilgrim' is definitely an album that grows on you and takes repeated listening before you really enjoy what it has to offer. The actual music and songs are pretty good and there are some real gems hidden on this album. The problem is Simon Climie's terrible production. Never have I heard such flat, uninspiring rendering of any artists work, especially Clapton. Unfortunately Climie continues to produce for Clapton, which is a real shame. Choosing a friend to produce your work is one thing, but production like this is unforgivable. Never the less this album has some great blues and a wonderfully melancholic feel to it, perfect for late night listening sessions or down beat moments. I do recommend this album, but try to look past the dire ... Read More:

'Live at Woodstock' is a great showcase of Jimi playing live. This was the first outing with this line up and you can tell in the freshness and rawness of the music. The best way to describe it would be loose, the playing is very loose and free and different to other Hendirx live albums i've heard. As a kid I never really 'got' the Woodstock version of 'The Star Spangled Banner', but as i've gotten older and definitely hearing it in context with the complete concert, I really understand the power behind taking a traditional, sacred (to Americans) piece of national music, deconstructing it and then rebuilding it in a new and mind blowing way. You'd have to hear it to see what I mean. This is a great performance and shows Jimi's unique and moving ... Read More:

This album is so good. It shows Ec playing some stupendous blues, ripping through some Cream tracks, has the better tracks of his output at that time and some excellent playing alongside an orchestra. I've rarely heard EC play the guitar as well as on this album, it is breathtaking at times. One of my favourites of his live work.

I bought this album on its original release and was struck by how casually modest Clapton's brief sleeve notes were. The contents suggest how quietly satisfied he must have felt. That there are just fourteen tracks across the ninety minutes reveals that the album tends toward lengthy workouts, the longest being the handful of blues numbers, all beautifully done. The production is clear and the playing of the highest quality.
'Tulsa Time,' which opens the album, is a catchy boogie to warm you up. 'Early In The Morning' follows, the first of the major blues performances. Clapton, though, divides these items up with more familiar hit material such as the wonderful 'Lay Down Sally.' Most of this appears on the first disc, but a fine seven-minute version of 'Cocaine' ... Read More:

The Pretty Things' 1968 album "S.F. Sorrow" did not cause much attention when it was originally released.
The band had already shown, with their previous album "Emotions", that they wanted to explore new grounds, and that they felt that the r&b concept was too limited for them.
"Emotions" showed that the band possesed excellent songwriters in Wally Allen, Phil May and Dick Taylor. Unfortunately the production of that album was not too successful; at least at the time it was considered as some kind of a "disaster".
This is not the case with the follow-up album "S.F. Sorrow". The sound is great and Norman Smith's production captured the new psychedelic sounds and trends of the late 1960's perfectly.

Every song is pure hendrix. Admittedly the songs hav been jumbled together on one album but none the less all brilliant. Pali gap is a track every big hendrix fan should listen too, that is the sound of outer space. The album is a mixture of Blues,60's rock, psychedelia and jazz, and i seriously recommend listening to it

I first heard this album when my older brother would play it over and over until I hated it. When it got re-released with extra songs, I found a new liking for it. There were the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and even Eric Clapton (Cream era), but there really was only one true solo guitar artist of this time. Jimi Hendrix just explodes on every track with hard core `rock and roll' ("Fire") or strong R & B ("Hey Joe"), but his classic FM songs were "Manic Depression" and "Purple Haze", the latter having one of the most replicated riffs in history outside of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven". Little mention was made in the sixties of his drummer Mitch Mitchell or his bassist Noel Redding, but here with this Remastered recording, you hear the sound as it was meant to be heard - perfectly balanced. The extra songs ... Read More:

If you love Harper then you need this fix! If you don't then steer clear, try something like Stormcock or Valentine instead.

Quite simply a guitar genius at work. If the guitar is your instrument and you like the blues you will surely love this album. Quite outstanding.

This 1980 live album from Fleetwood Mac comprises some performances recorded five years before and others from the 1979 'Tusk' tour. It is, perhaps, a little eclectic, and will strike more of a chord with the more dedicated fans of the band. Whilst the track listing includes several renowned Mac songs - for instance a powerful rendition of Stevie Nicks' Rhiannon, and energetic versions of Monday Morning and Say You Love Me - there are some 'new' compositions which range from decent to forgettable. Also, at times it would seem that the choice of recordings was rather odd - on Landslide, Nicks is barely audible, and Christine McVie suffers a similar fate on what starts out as a promising rendition of Over My Head.
Nevertheless, as opposed to 1997's 'The Dance' which was a very polished affair, the listener gets the ... Read More:
