For me Janis's albums (not bootlegs or compliations) split down the middle - those with Big Bro & the Holding Co and those without. Those with are the better, the happier, where she felt part of something. They're guitar based psychedelic rock at its best. They're raw, earthy, exciting, naive and bursting with energy. Cheap Thrills is best (live) and the studio Big Brother & the Holding Company an interesting, quirky innocent debut album.
Those without, Pearl & Kozmic Blues, are the unhappy Janis, full production, no band, orchestrated, brass and keyboard albums. They lack the passion and excitement and raw energy. Why is it when you tell the common-or-garden Rod Stewart fan that their idol sings on two of Jeff Beck's finest albums, they look at you as if you're the village idiot?
Not that this album or 'Truth' need their sales to be increased by Rod's status in the band, but it's just that those people think you're having a laugh, when in fact you're trying to do them a favour.
But never mind, it's their loss, and whilst Rod might be billed as 'vocalist extraordinaire,' he isn't the only 'name' on here, there's Ronny Wood and Nicky Hopkins, too; and Tony Newman was quite a well-renowned and straight-ahead rock drummer, too.
If you're into rock music in general or British rock, then this will keep you more than happy.

The eleven tracks on this album from the 70's are indeed some of Clapton's greatest moments despite being during his torrid drug and alcohol abusing days. This is a excellent introduction to Clapton and after listening to it you should know whether the rock/blues style of Clapton is for you. For those who already appreciate Clapton's genius and wish to have a comprehensive compilation album, then you may wish to give "The Cream of Clapton" a listen - it has 19 tracks, 8 more than this album. The Turning Point

At times intense, at others relaxing, this live, semi-acoustic, jazz-blues album stands in John Mayall's discography as second only to the 'Beno album'. This isn't that loud, messy jazz; this is relaxing and at times even beautiful.

The musician's interplay is wonderful, with guitar, flute, saxophone and, of course, mouth organ melodically harmonizing. Mayall's singing is probably the best I have ever heard it, and the atmosphere created is wonderful.

Definitely worth the money to any blues fan interested in something slightly left field. It's just unfortunate that we couldn't have been there ourselves.

Every song is pure hendrix. Admittedly the songs hav been jumbled together on one album but none the less all brilliant. Pali gap is a track every big hendrix fan should listen too, that is the sound of outer space. The album is a mixture of Blues,60's rock,psychedelia and jazz,and i seriously recommend listening to it

The Very Best of the Yardbirds

A band that are quite under-rated, this CD asks the question WHY!!!!! They already sound like one of the greatest bands ever when you hear that they first had Eric Clapton, then Jeff Beck and finally Jimmy Page, and you don't even have to click on the soundbite of New York City. The material ranges from live high-powered R&B to early psychedelic pop. Occaisionly too poppy for Eric Clapton who left due to the popiness of For Your Love, they unfortunately had a member who joined 10CC. They probably started the hard-rock/heavy metal movement, heard in Led Zeppelin who were basically a revised version of the New Yardbirds.

This CD is also a brilliant bargain I strongly recomend it to any fan of rocked-up blues or bluesed-up rock music. It also contains nearly -if not- all of Five ... Read More:

You get examples of all the most famous guitarists he had playing with him and hear how tight his various bands were. John Mayall's Bluebreakers were the forming ground for many blues and rock artists of the time and his influence is well acknowledged by musicians and fans alike. This is a great starting place if you want to hear his style and sound and this album tends to be less expensive that 'The Essential' collection also available.
