I first came across this wonderful album at the age of five when some American family friends bought it for me and my sisters. I loved it then and I still love it now (25 years later!) and was thrilled to discover that it is now available on CD.

As the title suggests it is a series of stories and songs which aim to break down stereo-types and address children's fears and emotions in a fun, accessible and non-patronising way. As some one who grew up to be only 5ft tall the line from one of the songs which goes 'And I don't care if I'm pretty at all and I don't mind if you never grow tall. I like what I look like and you're nice small. We don't have to change at all!' has particular significance for me!!!

The Essex were originally formed by a group of marines who were still in active service when they had their biggest hit, Easier said than done, which gave them an American number one hit in 1963. The single also became a minor UK hit although Britain was already gripped by Beatle mania, which hadn't yet crossed the Atlantic. The follow-up single, A walking miracle, nearly made the American top ten but missed the UK charts completely - however, this song eventually made the UK top ten in the seventies via a cover by Limmie and the family cooking. Their singles chart history ended with the minor American hit, She's got everything.

For, all of you Doctor Who fans who don't already own this album, you don't know what you're missing out on! I have 20 different versions of the classic, Ron Grainer theme, I've collected from all different sources, but I keep coming back to these four. My absolute favorite is Keff McCulloch's "Latin Version". This has a smooth, jazzy feeling to it. Maybe, they'll incoroporate this somehow into the opening or closing credits of the new series, which is currently in pre-production stages, slated to air sometime in 2005. I also like the "Regeneration Mix". It's sort of a combnination between midieval and techno music. As Johnny Carson would say: "That's wild stuff!"
