You will probably want to buy this for the excellent Dead Kennedys tracks but there's another band on here that any fan of British punk rock will want to hear. The Tights were the first band on the Cherry Red records label and 16 years old back in 1978. It is fashionable now to say that punk died in 1978 but bands like The Tights prove that it was alive and kicking hard in '78. Bad Hearts is the stand out but China's Eternal and Howard Hughes will not disappoint either.

Stax were one of the pre-eminent Soul labels, and while comparisons with Motown are obvious, there are significant differences. Stax was started by a White couple, Jim Stewart and Estelle Axton (hence Stax from the first 2 letters of each surname) and while it enjoyed it's reputation as the home of Southern Soul, and hence Black music, it was essentially a multi racial operation. In addition it did not distribute it's output, pre 1968. Motown was entirely Black owned and operated it's own distribution, with Berry Gordy controlling everything - and that means everything.
Stax entered 1972 after enduring a traumatic period since 1968, when it was discovered they had no rights to the material that Atlantic had distributed for them. ... Read More:

From 1967 to the mid-80's, this CD encompasses some of the best covered songs of their career. From obscure ditty's like "Please Read Me" by the classic singer Nina Simone to one of the most popular covers of "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" by Al Green, this is a must buy. If nothing else, this collection shows the immense range of song writing skills and the varied styles the Gibbs have written with over the years.
