This album was made by various international artists and artists from South America for charity. The mix of these styles of music and artists is a great way to appreciate Latin music and rythems and at the same time listen to some of your favorite artists. Well recommended...

Kerouac enthusiasts are well-served with recordings of their master's work read by others. I can think of more than six such sets already available, mainly of his well known books: On The Road (several times), The Dharma Bums (twice), Visions of Cody, and Mexico City Blues. There are also Jack's own recordings, released on a 3-CD Rhino Records set, in which he tends to explore more unfamiliar territory, such as his Pomes All Sizes, Old Angel Midnight, and Book of Blues, with just the occasional excursion into the more familiar realms of The Subterraneans, Desolation Angels, Lonesome Traveler, and Visions of Cody.
Such is the case with this tribute CD from Rykodisc where the producer (and nephew of Jack's last wife) Jim Sampas, has ... Read More:

Those of us who like rock music will be familiar with most of the songs. Many of them occur on other similar compilation albums but there are also some lesser known ones. Different types of rock music are covered including punk and glam. Good versions of all songs are provided and sound quality is excellent. The album art is bright and colourful making the whole package very attractive. It is a pity that it is no longer in production.

Okay, I pull this out of the CD case only to hear the 10th track, called, "No. 19" by Aphex Twin. It's a slow, simple sad ambient track, with a beautiful warm analog synthesizer sound that keeps repeating in a wonderfully soft way. Must be heard to be appreciated.
I'm one of those Aphex Twin fans from when he FIRST STARTED (I almost have ALL of his releases, even the vinyl only stuff he did under pseudonyms...) and even though I applaud where he's taken his sound (check out Come to Daddy EP and the Drukqs album) I find myself skipping past most of the harder stuff to appreciate his soft, ambient stuff.
BONUS FACT: This track, "No. 19" was before only accessible on the Aphex Twin album titled: Selected Ambient Works 2. But ... Read More:

Easily one of the best Christmas CD's, almost up there with Spector's. And on top of that a good contemporary blues album as well, with a feel good vibe all the way through. I bought it out of curiosity but come December play just about nothing else in the car. Too often Christmas music equals damp eyed schmalz, this is dance round the room and jive Christmas.
