1990's Nobody's Child is the best charity album I have ever come across. The album was the brainchild of Barbara Bach, Olivia Harrison, Yoko Ono, and Linda McCartney, and the money it raised went to support the huge numbers of orphans in Romania. This album really never got the attention it deserved (and still deserves); not only is the cause a noble one, but the quality of the music included here is top-notch indeed.
I'll list the tracks and the artists that grace this incredible album.
Track 1: The Traveling Wilburys, Nobody's Child. This is an outstanding and little known Wilburys classic. Track 2: The always impressive Van Morrison, Wonderful Remark Track 3: Elton John, Medicine Man Track 4: Dave ... Read More:

I usually head to the blues section and search for the "labels" boxed sets. This purchase was by far the best purchase that I've made to date. I was simply stunned by the range of performers and material in this 2 Cd collection. I was familiar with most names on the CD but was blown away by the material simply because this is surely some of the best cuts made on the Alligator label. I consider this to be the best compilation selection that I have ever made !

The star of the show is Donald Fagen and the best tracks are the excellent, more relaxed, versions of Steely Dan and solo songs. Mike McDonald comes a close second as he wraps his extraordinary vocals around some classic hits. Phoebe Snow is somewhat over-excitable in comparison and too far over the top while Boz Scaggs and Charles Brown weigh in with fine performances. The musicians perform to the highest level by being tight and relaxed at the same time. The concert represented is balanced well as a show and exudes a tremendous 'feel good' atmosphere. The stand-out track for me is Chain Lightning which has a wonderful groove.

This compilation stands frozen in time (like in an air bubble) in 1993, which was a wonderful year for electronic music. Around that time electronic artists were creating fantastic music, like Autechre, B12 and Black Dog on Warp, and The Orb elesewhere. It was a heyday, now sadly gone, but this compilation remains as a reminder of those times.
I usually don't like compilations, so it is a sign of this compilation's quality that I rate it so highly. There isn't a bad track on here. If you like Warp, or IDM, or electronica or have the barest liking of electronic music, you really need to own this CD.
The cover art is even magical, everything about this compilation has an air of quality and magic about it. They sure don't ... Read More:

I bought this on the strength of the reviews here (and lets face it, it is damn cheap). It contains some good tracks and I guess it does live up to the title. I found the production somewhat dated and the drum and bass doesn't really rattle the speakers as I would expect. If you are looking for a better all round compilation, check out The Front Line box set which is still my favourite by far.

Clockers in an inspirational soundtrack from an unforgettable film. The touching 'People in Search of a Life' by Marc Dorsey is the opening track of the CD and is one of the most underated soul songs of all time, period. 'The Return Of The Crooklyn Dodgers' by the Crooklyn Dodgers epitamises '95 Hip hop and the DJ Premier beat haunts the listener and pulls you into the gritty streets of '90s Brooklyn. The diversity of the album is its greatest asset as the CD swings from raw NYC hip hop jams produced by the likes of Salaam Remi and DJ Premier, to the touching and inspirational tracks by Des'ree, Seal, Chaka Kahn and Marc Dorsey. The Clockers soundtrack is a snapshot of life in New York in the mid 90's and in my collection of almost a thousand ... Read More:

I'll admit I'm a little biased - this was the first CD I ever purchased 12 years ago and it's still one of my favourite albums of all time - an inspired collection that includes some of the best (and overlooked) songs of the early 90's alternative rock, indie and grunge scenes.
This CD introduced me to bands like Soundgarden, Terrorvision, Priman Scream, Faith No More, Live, The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers & Sonic Youth and shaped my music tastes to this day as some of their most underated work.
I play this CD when I want to immerse myself in the music and the narrative, from a time before these bands became too big to survive or imploded due to over ego, from a time when they were my little secret ... Read More:
