Positiva are a label best known for their big trance hits, and they've put out plenty of cheesy house-by-numbers records as well as some gems.

This Ambient Collection is an unusual early release for Positiva, gathering together a bunch of brilliant tracks from various record labels into what is probably one of the best compilations of the 'heyday of ambient' from some huge names such as The Orb, The Aphex Twin (whose remix of Jesus Jones is stunning), The Irresistible Force and The Black Dog, as well as some lesser-known stuff which is equally good.

When they put this together, they must have picked some of the best songs from the artists albums to put on this great compliation. You get slow blues, rockin' blues, acoustic, electic,and more, its all here. Two CDs, 35 tracks for a great price. Just buy it, you wont regret it.

A house band featuring the likes of Bill Frisell and Greg Cohen is joined by guest vocalists and soloists such as Elvis Costello, Robbie Robertson, Keith Richards, Vernon Reid and Don Byron to produce a stunning collage of sound. This unique album works on a few different levels - as a great introduction to Mingus's work, a top-notch example of 90s jazz and even as a twisted ambient masterpiece.
