I have read all the reviews of BLUE on this site and they all give 5 stars. This is only because there isn't a rating for "THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME". In the years since I first heard Joni's heartstrings crying out I have heard many other albums - some great - but they are all pretenders. Blue just pushes all the buttons, ticks all the boxes and speaks direct to the core.

Hearing the Silver Jews have a new album out always leads to a short and dangerous drive to the nearest record shop for me. I can get from work to Avalanche records in Edinburgh in about 40 minutes if I push it: they close at 6...

I thought I had got passed this stuff now. Good God, my 'co-workers' give me funny looks as I try to tell them about David Berman's band - how funny and memorable his words are and how he puts them sleekly in such great tunes.
This is always going to be not so mainstream: unfair but true.

This one is pretty upbeat in comparison to the earlier records. David Berman is feeling better now. Whew!

1980's 'The River' can probably be regarded as Bruce Springsteen's first move toward a more commercial sound. After years of sober epics punctuated by the occasional radio-friendly song, he turned out a stack of uptempo three-minute songs. Eight of the first nine tracks on this album are in that style. Far from being routine love songs, however, they feature Springsteen's vivid turn of phrase and odd storylines. On 'Sherry Darling', for instance, the subject threatens to throw his girlfriend's mother out of his car. The impassioned 'Jackson Cage' (well, his songs usually are impassioned) is a highlight, while 'Hungry Heart' is an obvious single, if a relatively unsuccessful one. Nevermind

Even if, like me, you think many including Nirvana released better albums than this. What can be said that hasn't already been muttered by an occassional rock fan or shouted through a teenagers wall?

It is an excellent album, just over played, but it's nowhere near the best rock album, the most memorable grunge album or even the best indie-punk. It's a good pop album with guitars and feux-angst.

Call Me Irresponsible Tour Edition

This is my favourite play at the moment, I guess that I am a little late in trying Mr Buble's music, but I am a convert. Think of a nicely warmed, quality single malt, good crystal glass, this is that smooth, just slides down, leaving a pleasant glow behind. Good in the car, great on the MP3 player, nice in the background during dinner with friends. This album has a great selection of tracks, well known classics of the genre, and others, new to me at least. Just try it!

Josh Groban's voice is in a league of its own - the best non-operatic singer around! The album is superb and the David Foster production is out of this world! If you think you don't like classical music, listen to 'Un giorno per noi'. Surely this most be the most beautiful piece of music ever. I could listen to it all day, every day. The man is sheer class!

I try and give time to everything this man releases, but I haven't repeat played any of his albums since All This Useless Beauty. That's not to say there aren't good moments on The Delivery Man, When I Was Cruel, Brutal Youth, River In Reverse etc but I found them a little difficult to get through.

This is a looser album than any of those, with a wider variety (its almost like the days of Imperial Bedroom when you didn't know what style of song would be coming next). Sonically its reminiscent of Blood & Chocolate with a few echoes of the new wave days.

The songs are great. American Gangster time has a superb chorus. Turpentine has so many hooks you end up dazzled. Flutter & Wow, Go Away, Song With Eve and Harry Worth add loads of variety ... Read More:

Jonathan Livingston Seagull - Neil Diamond

It's good to see the renewed interest in Neil Diamond's work. Although most people know him via his hits during the 60s, 70s and early 80s, this album is completely different from most of his other recordings.

I heard this album the first time a few years after its release and despite a young age got hooked on it. It has a majestic feel all over, as if it flew over the musical landscape of its period, and probably would do the same even if being released today. One could claim that it gave signals of the new age sound that later developed. In other words, it has aged remarkably well.
