I think that ZZ Top are a very good band and they remain one of my favorite bands of all-time. this is one great collection and they made great blues music in the 1970s and the 1980s. here are my comments about most of the songs. GIMME ALL YOUR LOVING this is a really great song and is my 2nd favorite song on the entire cd. SHARP DRESSED MAN this is pretty great too, but probably my 5th favorite. ROUGH BOY is a ballad that is too slow and too sad for me. TUSH is an excellent blues rocker remains one of my 5 favorites on this album. MY HEAD'S IN MISSISSPII is a blues rocker one of my favorites, PEARL NECKLACE not my fave, IM BAD IM NATHIONWIDE this is pretty good although remains as a 10th favorite or something. In the beginning the way into Dylan was via Peter Paul & Mary,the Turtles,the Byrds and Johnny Cash.
And commercially electric Dylan was just right.
This CD is just a sampler and introduction to the Art of Dylan.If you want more you get the original albums on CD.All but one have been on catalog since CDs began.
My favorite Dylan song is Can you please crawl out your window.
Thus this double CD would only be of interest if there was a booklet with it and its by no means the only one of its kind as the most recent-titled DYLAN and in 3 different editions -comes with a picture book.
Today's Dylan collector needs plenty of money and plenty of room

Can't Buy A Thrill

Steely Dan's first album, like many first albums, suggests that they haven't settled on their approach. Yet this is to its advantage. While they seem to make only great albums, this is more the work of a rock band, rather than the usual Becker/Fagen dominated jazz-inflected musings. Sure, they wrote all the material here, but the other band members are allowed a more prominent role. The lead vocals of David Palmer, for instance, highlight that Donald Fagen's voice, while distinct, is probably Steely Dan's weakest link. Nevertheless, this is a minor gripe. From first track to last, this is solid-groove rock music, sophisticated, lyrically and musically imaginative, with the odd daring arrangement. From his session work on a Shangri Las single and a first album issued at the wrong speed Billy Joel has come a long way from the days he was touted as the New Bob Dylan.
In the days of disco and punk this music came as a breath of fresh air,music which reached back into the 60s and included the greatest single the 4 Seasons never made.
Just the way you are-the first hit in the U K in 1978-became an instant standard.
As a writer Joel is as good as Cole Porter,George Gershwin or Rodgers & Hart.
He now needs to make a covers album especially one of Beatles songs

Hearing the Silver Jews have a new album out always leads to a short and dangerous drive to the nearest record shop for me. I can get from work to Avalanche records in Edinburgh in about 40 minutes if I push it: they close at 6...

I thought I had got passed this stuff now. Good God, my 'co-workers' give me funny looks as I try to tell them about David Berman's band - how funny and memorable his words are and how he puts them sleekly in such great tunes.
This is always going to be not so mainstream: unfair but true.

This one is pretty upbeat in comparison to the earlier records. David Berman is feeling better now. Whew!

To put it in 1 sentence - The CD notes are as boring as the songs.

Why is it "Cool" to dismiss Neil Diamonds work before his work with Rick Rubin?...Any one of his non Rubin produced albums are far better than this. YES....any one! Try "Lovescape" to start.....15 songs, mostly cowritten by members of his long standing band. Who agrees? REVIEW BY MR C WILLIAMS, NOT MRS J

Mudcrutch

The obvious question seems to be why did they wait 35 years to release this material, it's wonderful. I feel sure that most of this material could readily fit on any of Tom Pettys other albums though the Mudcrutch material does have a more country music feel than his other material. The best tracks for me are 'Shady Grove' and 'Lover of The Bayou', neither of which TP wrote. All said there isn't a bad track on the album.

Instrumentally this album delights too. Tom Leadons country-rock style nicely compliments Mike Campbells perfection. TP doesn't take lead vocals on every track but the others don't disappoint.

So what's everyone waiting for? It's a must for every Tom Petty fan or even if you're not, go and spend a few quid and buy a really cracking album ... Read More:

This is not their best album, worth listening to, definitely. I would urge you to buy it but if it's a choice of different muse albums go for Black Holes and Revelations. Very good lyrics and the songwriting is upto scratch as usual. Still very good.

I try and give time to everything this man releases, but I haven't repeat played any of his albums since All This Useless Beauty. That's not to say there aren't good moments on The Delivery Man, When I Was Cruel, Brutal Youth, River In Reverse etc but I found them a little difficult to get through.

This is a looser album than any of those, with a wider variety (its almost like the days of Imperial Bedroom when you didn't know what style of song would be coming next). Sonically its reminiscent of Blood & Chocolate with a few echoes of the new wave days.

The songs are great. American Gangster time has a superb chorus. Turpentine has so many hooks you end up dazzled. Flutter & Wow, Go Away, Song With Eve and Harry Worth add loads of variety into the mix.

The Sound of Girls Aloud

I will admit I was originally determined to hate Girls Aloud because I am against reality TV shows but song after song I found myself unable to stop listening. Now I am a huge fan and bought the Greatest Hits as I had not previously bought a Girls Aloud album. Every track makes me want to dance and sing into my hairdryer. My personal favourite are Long Hot Summer, Wake Me Up, Something Kinda Ooh and the unreleased track Money with it's hilarious lyrics. The girls lyrics are undeniably witty and sharp and nothing if not bold on all of their singles.

I play this CD whenever I am getting ready for a night out, Something Kinda Ooh is always the final track I play as it is my favourite party mood song. I have also found myself beginning to like some of the songs I wasn't into the first time such ... Read More:
