This album is really good. Come on - as if you didn't already know that! With the Foo Fighters there is a certain level of quality that you expect- and they always deliver.
The BEST songs on the album are 'Breakout'(I Love the screaming!), 'Learn To Fly'(A pop song, but still good), 'Live-Skin'(A good song for various reasons). There are other songs that are good as well. Such as 'Gimme Stitches', 'M.I.A, ect. but the first three songs I mentioned are really good and you will remember them for years to come.
The album only has a few bad songs which suffer from being very boring('Generator').
The album also has some acousic(y) songs to offer such as 'Next Year' and 'Ain't It the Life'. So basically, if you like the ... Read More:

By trying to find a B side to the then current Harrison single the wheels cranked into motion for one of the most remarkable musical happennings of the 20th century. The fact that it happenned in the 80s made that decade a little more than one in which according to the rock critics "nothing of consequence happenned" and the decade where Dylan is supposed to have cut his worst albums
The music could have lived in the 60s and was in fact made by survivors from the 60s (and 70s re Tom Petty who was really a carry on of the 60s).
The Travelling Wilburys probably intended to make just the one album but a 2nd one would follow named Volume 3 on purpose.
The Travelling Wilburys were not without tragedy as Roy Orbison passed away and his ... Read More:

From her wide vocal range to her very clever and interesting lyrics, Jewel is without doubt one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. Most artists tend to have a greater strength with either their vocals or lyrics, however with Jewel, it's difficult to even begin to choose simply because she is a master at both.
It is hard to pick which box Jewel's music fits into, whether it's Folk, Pop or Country music, Jewel's voice and lyrics are what keeps her unique style as an artist.
A country album has been on the cards for a while now with Jewel, but due to her distinctive style in both her vocals and lyrics, "Perfectly Clear" ends up being a Jewel album first and a country album second. Jewel has shown that whether it's folky ... Read More:

What are you thinking? "Oh no, not another female singer-songwriter!" I know, I know, they're everywhere aren't they? There were five on my bus this morning. But if some of them (including some of the higher profile ones) are pretty formulaic, or plain rubbish, Brandi Carlisle is well up the quality scale. To me this could be an album made by Beth Orton after a boozy session with Bonnie Raitt backstage at a Paul McCartney gig. So you get folky pop-rock with an abrasive element. It's pretty accessible, no bad thing, and not forgettable. Brandi Carlisle here shows good old-fashioned songwriting and performing skills. No gimmicks, plenty of talent.

i think that this is a pretty good cd, and though it is overrated it is not my favorite. the best song on this cd is my second most favorite straits song money for nothing on this album it is full length. heavy fuel would be my all time favorite. so far away is wonderful, i love that title and walk of life is a classic too, i play the whole album sometimes, but brothers in arms the title song is a sad closer. i would rate it four because there the greatest song is money for nothing. by the way i like the cover to the album. nice guitar.

I bought this album because I already loved the 'Badlands' and I went to the recent London Emirates Stadium gig, where he played some other tracks from this album.
I own Nebraska, Born to Run, Born in the USA and the recent Magic and I love them all, but this surpasses them in my opion. A truly awesome album, every song is fantastic.

This album contains the best songwriting of David Bowie's magnificent career. Where to start? Well. it kicks off with Changes; a signature tune for his career. I recall the opening bars being played in the documentary "Cracked Actor" from 1974. Bowie, stepping out of a car in the USA looking emaciated, lost, and delicate. The warm tones of his pre-Ziggy Englishness seemed to wrap around the walking figure. Changes, like Oh You Pretty Things, and Kooks, is Bowie stripped bare. For once the honesty is almost too intense: "I turned myself to face me, but never caught a glimpse".
And for the next six years Bowie kept running, at least until the near breakdown of Station to Station/Low.
The album is haunting, folksy, melodic, wordy, kooky, dark and light, and seems to ... Read More:

It's probably just about worth the extra money to get the John Hiatt DVD with his new CD, though it isn't very long.
The CD itself I'd give four stars to. On the whole I've enjoyed it very much, despite a couple of tracks he doesn't pull off vocally. It has a bunch of very catchy well-rounded songs and is really nicely produced for a change.
Note that there's nothing on the DVD from Same Old Man.
But there are performances of classic songs from presumably the late eighties when JH looked a bit gaunt, up to relatively more recent times when he looks older but better. I also prefer the somewhat later performances though they're all cherry picked good 'uns.
There's a particularly nice rendition of Crossing Muddy Waters, with the band on mandolins ... Read More:

Yes, this album won't be to everyone's taste. But that's the case for most albums of whatever genre. Look at the albums that Leonard Cohen and Neil Young have released over the years. Some albums will be revered by their fans and some will be reviled by others. Some fans may like most of their albums but not all their albums. It's all a matter of taste. But fortunately for these two artists, they have been around long enough to produce this many albums! Buckley had only one opportunity to show off his talents (disc wise) before he sadly drowned.
That is why it is an essential piece of music. He never got the chance to 'progress' and 'prove his worth'. Many bands/artists produce mediocre first albums and then move on to mega-stardom. This album is a little nugget of what ... Read More:
