martha wainwright proves on this album that despite all of her vaunted background she is a true original. the songs show great craft, especially BMFA which is perfectly written. and her voice is a wonder. it has the flexibility of mary margaret o'hara's voice and the emotional vastness of jane siberry but is also something completely hers. its really exhilirating the way it can just take off in the middle of a song and go wherever it likes yet still make complete musical sense.
for many years i've been grieving the fact that mary margaret o'hara hasn't been making music but with this album the gap is filled. but she isn't a copycat. like any true talent this musical vision is completely martha's own. and it seems to have sprung ... Read More:

I agree with Musicman. I bought Sloe Gin after reading the glowing reviews here and thinking I'd take a chance but I was seriously disappointed. Most of it is moody rather than blues, tending either to the heavy and overblown or the colourless and derivative - often in the same song, probably in the name of 'dynamics'.
Joe is obviously not a bad guitarist but he's nowhere near the brilliance claimed for him and on this showing his take on blues rock is weighted 90-10 in favour of the latter, with his slide playing in particular sounding very ordinary. Indeed, arguably the only 'proper' blues on the record is Joe's cover of Charles Brown's 'Black night', which sounds more than a little like the late Jeff Healey...only not quite as good. ... A Great album ,with a mix of live and studio tracks.
Personally I think the live tracks bring some great energy to the album and even though they are live they have good production.
Turn it up loud and enjoy!
Love it!!

This album has many of the usual stereolab hallmarks, but as usual the sound has been morphed to reflect the current obsessions of Tim Gane and lateitia sadier.I am a massive long term fan of The Lab and this album does not disappoint though it has taken a few listens to really get my head round it.It is decidely less baroque than many of their previous excursions. The sound is tighter and more direct. This feels like both a good and a bad thing. It is less langourous and abstracted. Melancholia is almost absent from this record though there is still that restless yearning that they do so well.Despite this,it is a rich and beguiling album that definitely reveals more with each listen.before long the melodies and crypto-poetic lyrics imbed themselves in ... I fell in love with this movie when it first opened in theaters and I loved all the music in it, including the score, and particularly the bit where Colin Firth proposes to Aurelia. But when I bought the CD here in the US, all it had what the popular pop stuff! (I guess they figured Americans wouldn't appreciate the beautiful instrumental music? Probably right actually.) You guys in the UK got the whole deal. It will be well worth the overseas shipping!!

I have to admit I am a little out of touch with modern music, I like what I know and that does me fine. However on a random trip to my local record store I couldn't help but tap my feet as I walked round. I didn't know who it was playing through the store speakers but loved their upbeat cheeky sound so curiousity got the better of me and I had to go ask a shop assistant. "Fall Out Boy" she said. Nope, sorry never heard of them, but I still went directly to the shelf and bought this album. I absolutely love it, can't stop playing it, it's on my ipod and accompanies me to work, I have it on in the background when I'm doing the housework and I even play it when I'm working out.
A great album, loads of catchy tunes and even better songs you can sing along ... Read More:

I can't think of any reason for why people gives this album three or even one star??? How can you critisize an album which is made up by previous hit singles. After my opinion a Single Collection is never bad, and especially not this.
Here are all the favorite Sugababes songs gathered on one cd. Could it get any better?! No, of course not!!
Every single track on this cd is splendid; the no 1 hits Push the Button, Hole in the Head, Round,Round, and Freak like Me gives you a good headach. And not too mension the hit ballads Too lost in you, Stronger, and Ugly. And the new and sexy single Easy gives the single collection the final touch.
But we must not forget the other top-charts songs that is to find here; Red Dress, In the Middle, Shape, ... Read More:

The CD has all the main hits (pre Astronaut) plus a few lesser known hits. Some songs are edited versions so if that is an issue, beware. This is especially evident on the Rio tracks and Ordinary World. For most people, though, these are the versions they know having heard them on the radio for 20+ years. I could say that such and such song should have been included (OK, Violence of Summer) but can not find any real fault in the selection. The sound quality is fine which should not be a surprise; the sound quality of DD was always top class.

I only knew a few of the hits of REO Speedwagon but thanks to this superb compilation album, I know many more. It's brilliant, chilling music and a must have for all soft rock fans.

This is a beautiful, soul wrenching and inspiring third album from Emiliana Torrini, the best singer/songwriter ever to come over from Iceland. Her melodies, lyrics and crystal clear voice combine to make dawn rise brightly through the smoky city...I stole a review copy of the CD from someone's bag in a London train station and it was definitely an unexpected prize...
