This album seems to be one which you either love or hate. Personally, I love it! Whereas some people feel that after a year's wait, this does not live up to the hype, I would definitely disagree. It is very rare that I find an album where I love every single track, but this is it. The main problem for Leona is that she went through the x-factor singing flawless renditions of some of the world's best known and best loved songs. Unfortunately, therefore, she was almost expected to produce an album of tracks which could rival these songs. Yep. Track 21 (The World is Not Enough) is performed by someone called Garbage and talk about living up to one's name... How did someone who has no voice wind up singing a Bond song? *shakes head in disbelief* Actually, after kd lang's sublime performance of Surrender, the rest of the CD is not worth listening to. Before that, however, it's a lovely trip down memory lane listening to good sings sung by singers who can, well, sing.....

I'm a longtime fan of Eva Cassidy's wonderful voice and style. I think I have all her albums and those albums provide a lot of the background music for my life. Her all-too-soon death took a marvelous talent from this world.

That said, though, I found this album a bit disappointing. I think that with every now-deceased beloved artist, there exists a file somewhere of recorded songs that were considered for earlier albums and put aside because they weren't quite good enough. Then, when the artist dies, there's a scramble to unearth these items and create an album from them. It doesn't always work: those songs were filed away for good reason.

To me this set of eleven songs seems like This Is The Life - a deserving worldwide hit, with six million YouTube views at the time of writing - and ten charming variations. Collectively, they just about pull their weight, and occasionally get close to genius (e.g. 'Poison Prince', in my humble opinion). I very much hope we will see one or two more big ideas in the second album.

Sam's Town

For someone who liked Hot Fuss, but didn't go crazy for it I find it bewildering that so many people think it was superior to Sam's Town. I have to sorry to those people but you are wrong Sam's Town is a fantastic album and clearly superior to HF in every aspect. Hot Fuss was a good first effort and Sam's Town is the coming of age of a band I think are just about the best around. Love it!

When this album hit the shops Pres.Kennedy had just been assasinated.As no one felt like celebrating-so they say-the album was a total flop and warehouses all over the country had 1000s of returned copies.
Understandably Spector was annoyed after all that work!
Probably the fact that the Singing Nun represented that years Christmas hit!
In 1964 the British Invasion which gave a boost to his career as the Ronettes toured the U K and the man came here to nob with the Stones and his British answer Andrew Loog Oldham who would prove beneficial.
as for the Beatles they would be his Saviour and by the early 70s both Harrison and Lennon had increased his bank balance considerably as well as his ego.Plus the fact that Apple had reissued the Christmas album. ... Read More:

i cant believe i hear this album now! having recently bought the brilliant Leaders Of The Free World I wanted to discover Elbow. Then I listened to Cast Of Thousands next which i included in my top 10 album list. but then I listened to this album and I was totally knocked off my feet! I just love it. this is music! reading other reviews I was deeply dissapointed they were compared to other bands. some of the reviews which compare elbow to say coldplay would have put off buying this record. If u like music then get all the albums by Elbow. Another band I thought I should recommend is I Am Kloot.

Final Straw

I suppose, with any artist and any album, if you get one really good song that you can take with you, and have it for ages to listen to, then i suppose it must therefore be ok. This album has four great songs. Track one and of course Chocolate, Spitting Games and Run,which are catchy. Lead vocalist has a beautiful and strong Irish voice, which is lovely.
Just disappointed with the rest of album, you sometimes have to ask, why it is some artist can;t just 12 truely fabulous tracks.

All The Lost Souls

This album is twice as good as his previous effort and I have therefore given it two stars. His voice is still annoying though. Maybe someone should suggest to him (nicely) he does an instrumental album. Yikes..
