I had never heard Cesaria Evora until this album and what pleasure she gives. I love this album. A lot of the songs have a soothing melancholy feeling to them but come over as uplifting rather than depressing. Listening to this after a stressful day is an excellent way to relax and recover your equilibrium.

One Life

This is a return to his best, although I cannot say it is perfect. The outstanding tracks are truly outstanding (Makhabeleni and Thamela Die Son Trek Water are examples) and are enough to break your heart, but there are some decidedly average tracks as well. I think the good by far outway the not-so-good, and I would therefore recommend it; not a perfect album, but his best since Third World Child.

If you like world music, jazz or funk - this is the album for you. Relentless high energy with some tracks going on for near-20 minutes each! Combined in Fela's life story (outlined on the sleeve), you'll be hooked.

Fela's gone now, but his son Femi is keeping the sound alive and contemporary with other great releases and rare live UK performances. But it was his daddy set the standard.

Rigo Star and Diblo play swinging lead guitars over them. The best tracks are Sai, Liza and Belle Amie with the others not far behind.
Kanda Bongo Man has recorded many more good songs, but never better than these 10 crackers.
