These eclectic discs are celebrations not so much of Christmas as of the music of Christmas past, in some cases the distant past - from the C12. Carols made familiar by a combination of the Victorian legacy and constant over-exposure are (in the words of Andrew Parrott) stripped of their tinsel to reveal the long-lost, pristine original. In some cases, this original bears no more than a passing resemblance to the carol of the shopping mall tannoy.

The carols on this first disc share certain key features. They all celebrate Advent/Christmas/Epiphany. All are simple and heartfelt. My 1 year old son is a big fan of the tweenies "song times", so I bought this dvd expecting to have some of their songs (we are really glad you came, eentsy weentsy spider, 1 2 3 4 5 once I caught a fish alive...) to play in the car, but I did not find any of those in the album, plus my son does not like it at all.

My 1 year old son is a big fan of the tweenies "song times", so I bought this dvd expecting to have some of their songs (we are really glad you came, eentsy weentsy spider, 1 2 3 4 5 once I caught a fish alive...) to play in the car, but I did not find any of those in the album, plus my son does not like it at all.

This is followed by a computer animation of a parade of animals which always transfixes and delights our daughter. In fact this tape is just one delight after another - fantastic entertainment for tots from beginning to end.

What a fantastic idea. I have always loved Vivaldi and now my daughter who is 14 months old loves it. The first time I played it for her she started to bounce up and down excitedly.
