This is a CD that was fairly disappointing when I first listened to it on my own, as it just seemed like country music (which I do not listen to all all). However, once I started listening to it with my year old baby (dancing with her in my arms, or on floor), singing the rhythmic verses before she falls asleep, or just as a sing-along (with other friends and their pre-school children) it is wonderful.

My kids are hardcore fans of Barney T.V show. I thought this CD would be right along their alley. It was love at first sight for my five yaer old kids. It starts with the frightfully jolly Barney theme song, and ends with the emotional I love you. it is a rollercoaster ride of fun and games, and you'll be humming along to it in no time. The standout tracks are definately the reassuring "my family's just right for me", the bouncy tune of "the ants go marching" and the frankly rather disturbing but still very jolly "do your ears hang low". There are disapointments including the rather cliched alphabet song and the rather repetitive Itsy Bitsy Spider. The rather symplistic lyrics aside this is good clean fun for all ... Read More:

I bought this CD for my 1 yr old as I thought it covered alot of what I wanted for in the car.

At first the CD is fun but as you get near the end of each CD (especially CD's 1 & 2) the tracks go funny, as if the entertainers have been drinking all day or been on helium. Not enjoyable at all!!!! Its like they tried to be up to date with the mixing desk but got it so wrong.

'Sing a song of sixpence' - Helium filled song.
'Simple Simon' - as if they turned the song down to slow speed and rerecorded for the album.

I would not recommend this CD to anyone else based on that as the ending scared the life out of my son.

Thought this was a lovely idea for a children's CD, with great songs (and slightly 'different' from the norm) from around the world. I was really disappointed in the never-ending introductions and unconstructive 'chatter' before every single song, though, making it completely useless as a bedtime CD or even a nice 'music' CD, since it's all turned into a kind of lesson and once listened to my kids couldn't be bothered listening to it again as it was boring second time around and rather pointless. Very disappointing as the idea was super.

I bought this CD and "Officium" some time ago and still marvel at the way the music transports me to another level! My particular favourite is the Tallis track, "O Lord in Thee is all my trust" - it is incredibly haunting and evocative, with the plaintive saxophone melody soaring away, tearing at your soul, and yet so uplifting. Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble really work well together, one complementing the other. I think you either love their musical expressions in these CDs or hate them - there is no in between!
