All the main themes in this outstanding score have been quite rightly hailed by many past reviewers. All I can add is, listen to THE ASTEROID FIELD. It is probably the most fantastic action scene accompaniment by any composer in cinema history, and that includes Bernard Herrmann. Williams uses every corner of the orchestra with awe inspiring precision and verve. I cannot champion this fine piece of movie music enough. The rest of the soundtrack ain't too bad either!!

Before John Williams moved to California and became a hugely famous composer of film scores, he gigged in numerous New York jazz clubs, performed on Henry Mancinni's recording of the Peter Gunn theme, and served as band leader and arranger for crooner Frankie Laine.
He was known then as "Johnny" Williams.
And it's to Johnny and this era that Carvin Knowles and the Evil Genius Orchestra dedicate this album of Star Wars covers, Cocktails in the Cantina, clever arrangements for big band orchestra circa the late 50's in styles ranging from jazz and mambo to bossa nova performed by some of southern California's best studio musicians.

A Bug’s Life Soundtrack
The tagline for this 1998 CGI insect flick – Pixar’s equally impressive follow-up to ‘Toy Story’ – is ‘an epic of miniature proportions!’ This is also true of the score; the delightfully strange epic quality of the story (it’s about ANTS, for Pete’s sake!!!) is well reflected in Newman’s music, which is a quirky blend of cartoonish slapstick dissonance and melodic Western-like gushing, plus a whole lot more in-between the two.
It’s a pacy soundtrack, that tends to flick (or is that ‘Flik’?) between comic and sensitive nuances by the second. If you can keep up, there’s much to enjoy. Music accompanying the sections ... Read More:

Hans Zimmer is certainly a good sountrack composer and he's done the job well here, but I don't feel the music on its own is anything special really. I mainly wanted to hear the Spider Pig track which always makes me laugh. So unless you really loved the music when you saw the movie, or are a very big Simpsons fan then there's not much here really. I expect when I've seen the movie a few more times it will be nice to listen to the soundtrack and be reminded of the various funny parts though.

I had the Star Wars single on vinyl from 1978, until a recent disaster whereby I found it leaning against a hot pipe in my flat, bent and deformed by the heat. Oh how I cried...
Then I realised it is still available. While having it on CD doesn't compare to having the original print on vinyl, it did make me feel a little better.
The highlight here is not the SW theme (though it is pretty dope), but the original b side, Other Galactic Funk (which was just called "Funk" on the single I had).
If you're a funk fan or a Star Wars fan, you'd be a wookie to miss this.
