Poulenc/Guilmant/Widor - Organ Works

This CD features a marvellous performance of Guilmant's 1st Symphony, which is in fact an orchestral arrangement of his 1st Organ Sonata. It sounds brilliant here - really exciting -and this is down to the organist, Tracey, and the conductor, Tortellier. The organ of Liverpool Cathedral is one of the biggest in the country, which helps (although I don't think he ever uses full Great -it would be too loud!). In short, an exhilarating listen, even for someone who is not an organ fan.

Next, Tracey records Widor's 5th Organ Symphony. As is customary with Tracey's playing, it is technically flawless, but somehow I don't think the organ really suits the work. It's just slightly too English.

I learned how to speak French in Montreal by watching Sesame Street and when we moved to Toronto when I was 7 it also helped me switch over from French to English. I am at a point (and these are the only products that I do this with) where I do not even read the reviews, I just order for my son who is 32 months old. Honestly, I have only purchased the one track, You're The One, and it's amazing. I just wanted to share that! I love the tone of Tomlin's voice, and I love the raw quality that is sometimes, but not always, detectable in his other work - and on this track it is really showcased and his passion in what he's singing is really apparent - it resonates with me because of it's Christian message, and also because it's just a great song in its composition and execution.
