Hundred Reasons looked finished when they were unceremoniously dropped from their previous label Sony, and it looked as if one of Britain's most promising underground rock bands would never be heard from again. After Shatterproof Is Not A Challenge, to some people this wasn't an altogether bad thing.

Being a big fan of most of their previous work and their excellent immersing live performances, I was pretty happy when I heard they were finally recording a new record. And I was even happier when I bought it because, put simply, it's a blinder.

Colin and co really, really needed to make this album a step up from everything they ever did before, it needed to be more of Ideas Above Our Station and less of Shatterproof ... Read More:

It's very difficult to accurately review music, since peoples tastes naturally rely upon being able to hear it. Perhaps before I begin it would be necessary to outline the female singers that I like, as that may at least hint towards what I personally consider "good". Beth Orton, KT Tunstall, Jewel and Alanis Morissette I would consider excellent.

Heather Nova was completely unknown to me until I purchased this CD, admittedly from an Amazon Recommendation. I have to say that I think that Nova is a wonderful singer and this CD has some terrific songs. She has a great presence of voice that is very soft but at the same time very powerful. This is a real pleasure to listen to.

Powder Blue [CD 2] [CD 2]

Guy Garvey's brittle vocals mix superbly with the delicately poised and intricately constructed musical arrangements to give us another corker from one of the best new bands of the year by a mile. 'Powder Blue' is typical of this bands seemingly natural balance between the vocals and the instrumentals. The vocalist seems to fit into the music, almost disappear into the music, and vice versa. This band are so finely tuned that if you were to remove just one piece from the jigsaw, there would be an obvious gap in the music and the whole picture would fall apart.

I decided to write a review for this album after i re-found it in my collection. it has recently been used in the Channel 4 (more 4) advert for the IraqiWar season. the advert is soldiers with clown make up on... you know the one... and the track 'falls into view' is used. What a great choice by channel4!!

This album is one of those albums that carries, by word of mouth from one set of friends, to another. The number of people who i've told about the album and have gone out and bought it themselves is astounding.

Agony and Irony

Having been a fan of the Trio for the past 7 years, I have followed their steady change of direction from the raw and explosive sounds of "Goddamnit" to the smoother and polished finish of "Crimson" with increasing admiration and eagerly anticipated the release of new material. It was quite apparent that this album was never going to return to the early days of crashing drums and jackhammer guitars, but every Trio album has it's own highlights and this one is no exception. On the previous records, it's usually been a 50/50 mix of Skiba/Andriano songs which have been the main contenders, but this album sees a change in direction in favour of Andriano. Gang of Losers

It doesn't seem to matter how many times I listen to this album, I can't believe I will ever get bored of it. Every track is a classic in itself and it just leaves you wanting more (which is probably why its so easy to listen to over and over again).

If you don't own this album, you have to buy it now.

this is by far one of the best albums I own, there is not a bad song on here, every single one is great. The album begins with the absolutely amazing 'Strasbourg', but the highlight for me is 'We are all animals' which is fantastic. I cant compare the rakes to another band because they are not like anyone else, but trust me, buy this!!!

Stand Up

I bought this from Amazon and had no problems with protection.
It strikes me that the great thing with DMB is that you dont just get the same thing repackaged as a new album every time. Therefore the possibility of some hit and miss efforts increases.I have all of their albums and find that this one shows that they have the creative genius to just keep coming up with fantastic, original stuff. Overall, this is another gem and it is clear to me that the reason they are not huge over here. Embarrassingly, it seems is that the Great British public prefer the synthesised rubbish trotted out by Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell's talentless robots. A genius like Dave Matthews sadly stands no chance. Says a lot about us really.

A truly excellent album - most likely one of the best released in 2007. Every song quickly becomes, despite some not being immediate, a favourite. The complexity of Translate, the thrill of Understand. Brilliant stuff. The only disappointment is that this is their last, having broken up a few months after the CD's release.
