I used to be friends with the Datsuns when I lived in Hamilton, but this album exceeds all my expectations. When I met John Paul Jones backstage at a White Stripes gig, he told me he was going for a stripped-back sound. He's a liar! But I'm glad he went the other way. When I was in the D4, we talked about making a really big, glam, 70's sounding rock album. It looks like the Datsuns have beaten the D4 to it.

Ancestry in Progress

The 5th Zap Mama album, "Ancestry in Progress" coincided with Marie Daulne's move to the US. It's back to easy listening with a more American insprired beat. The only track which stood out for me was "Lecon No. 5" (lesson number five). Still a very professional album.

Resistance

....I would know whether this album contributes to the "jazz canon". Aren't there two 'n's in cannon anyway?

I can understand that anyone who doesn't like "Devotion" is unlikely to appreciate this one either but for me, I did (like 'Devotion'), and I do (like 'Resistance'). It's for all moods at any time of the day, and I think that it's very good indeed. I have seen Mr Pine twice live and he is electric on stage, and that comes through to me on this album. Yes, it's different from, say, his playing of a standard like 'Sunny' for example and although I think that he plays that number really well, maybe that's for Jazz dinosaurs anyway.

Keep up the good work.

I love this album!

Ane has a wonderful voice and on this album she sings duets with a lot of other artists. The songs are quiet, with focus on the voices. Very melodic and acoustic. The song "Lift me" which she performs with the rockband Madrugada is alone worth the price of the album. It was a huge hit in Norway in 2007 and it's easy to understand why when you listen to it. I absolutely love this song! Madrugada's singer Sivert Hoeyem has a wonderful, deep voice which works perfectly with Ane Brun's voice. The other songs are also wonderful. She does duets with Tingsek, Syd Matters, Teitur, Lars Bygd'en, Wendy McNeill, Ron Sexsmith, Tobias Froeberg, Ellekari, Liv Widell and Madrugada. I warmly recommend this album!!

It doesn't seem to matter how many times I listen to this album, I can't believe I will ever get bored of it. Every track is a classic in itself and it just leaves you wanting more (which is probably why its so easy to listen to over and over again).
