'Arthur' was originally conceived as a musical television drama, but when the drama never materialised, Ray Davies went ahead and released the music in the form of a concept album. The basic story relates to Ray's brother-in-law Arthur who emigrated to Australia some years previously.
Generally, the music here has a much more 'modern' feel than previous Kinks albums, mainly due to its very rich production and the typical Kinks sound augumented by horns. In many ways 'Arthur' is much more suited to the ideals normally associated with concept albums than 'The Village Green Preservation Society' because it does seem to be much grander in scope.
The songs are generally strong despite the fact that 'Victoria', 'Shangrila' and 'Australia' ... Read More:

First off I'd like to point out that FTATR would be a five star review if it was compared only to the majority of the dross presently pumped out. The problem is that it can only be compared to Back in Black given that they were produced so close together and have in many ways a similar sound. And there is the slight problem - Back in Black is a "once in a lifetime" album and as I can only give five stars then FTATR must have less. It's still a great record though and it along with Flick of the Switch and Fly on the Wall make up the best period of records that AC/DC pumped out with Brian Johnson after BiB. There is on this record of course a couple of classics - For Those About to Rock and Lets Get It Up can bear comparison to anything on Black in Black ... Read More:

Constructive criticism is one thing, but some of the scathing reviews I have read on here are nothing short of pathetic.
Quite what the hell people expect from Oasis in this day and age is beyond me. After years of relative underachievement, 'DBTT' should be celebrated not berated.
Between the release of 'Supersonic' in 1994 and the enormity of Knebworth in 1996, Oasis were untouchable. Two classic albums, nine fantastic singles (with phenomenal b-sides often topping them), a clutch of era-defining gigs... they weren't a band, they were living legends, and like many teenagers back then, Oasis meant the world to me.
But 'Be Here Now', for all its inspired moments (DYKWIM?, Fade In/Out, Don't Go Away) arguably pushed ... Read More:

The title track has never been one of my favourite Abba songs and so that doesn't start this one on a solid footing, although there is no doubt that Abba are the best thing ever to come out of the Eurovision Song Contest apart from Secret Garden.
This has a similar feel to the first album, although the real hints of pop music writing genius are becoming evident in "Hasta Manana" one of their most endearing songs and a blueprint for so many pop songs that were to follow and "Dance (While the Music Still Goes On)". Sadly songs like "Sitting in the Palm Tree" and "King Kong Song" are dreadful and the kind of thing you would expect from trashy party groups like Black Lace. It's a tough call as to whether this is an improvement on Ring Ring. Perhaps ... Read More:

As I read the reviews from not only this wonderful CD but Eva's other ones I am struck by how unanimous the praise is for her. And then I look at the date of the reviews and I begin to worry and wonder. There does not seem to be any from the last five years. Right beside the reviews is an ad wondering what is wrong with young people who think Man Ray was a poisonous fish when he was an artist. Personally I think if Man Ray had thought about it he might have wanted to be Manta Ray as well. But I digress. Just as we are losing our capacity to recognize an artist who was working seventy years ago we are losing our ability to reach out to a recording artist who has been dead for only twelve years.
Surely there are younger listeners who are more concerned with quality ... Read More:

This album proved that Radiohead could produce excellent radio friendly rock music.
It is full of brilliant songs. My favourites - Fake Plastic Trees, High & Dry and Street Spirit.
Thom Yorke's bleak lyrics we have become so familiar with are present in here but perhaps not as obvious as in the later albums due to the strength of Greenwood's guitar in most tracks.
It seems as though the band proved to themselves with this album that they could do the "Britpop" album. You have to admire them for moving on the "The Bends", which was very successful, to the more challenging directions taken in later albums.
However this album stands on its own as a classic in its own right.

This reminds you just how much the Bond films have benefited down the years from fantastic themes; all the themes are perfect in the fact that they give each film its distinct identity. The caliber of artists is also amazing, it obviously being very cool to do a Bond theme!!
If you love Bond, you'll know every tune off by heart; if you don't, you'll still know a lot of them.
My faves are 'Nobody Does It Better', 'For Your Eyes Only', 'Live and Let Die', and 'A View to a Kill', but I could make a case for virtually any track.
Great set of songs. Great films. Great album.

This is a music from the another dimension. Absolute clearity of the mind. A fragile balance you are looking... A touch of something beautiful that's uncomparable bigger than you.

Kylie's back where she belongs, on top, this has got some great dance tracks, the stand out ones for me, In My Arms, No More Rain, The One, Wow (which aptly sums up this album) and the more soulful Cosmic, my personal favourite. Interesting to see that Madonna's almost copied this cd cover for her recent embarrassing effort, let's hope Kylie can mature more gracefully than her.
