This is a wonderful concerto within the traditon of British music. The "atmosphere" sometimes reminds you of the Sibelius concerto. More conservative than, for instance, the Britten but no less interesting.
Absolutely worthwhile. Both Lydia Mordkovitch and the City of London Sinfonia under Richard Hickox do a very good job. The Children's Suite, after poems by Walter de la Mare, is very attractive too.

This version of Peter and the Wolf is much better than that in the usually excellent naxos collection. The narration by Peter Ustinov is far superior to that of the irritating Edna Everage in the naxos version, who talks over the orchestra at each opportunity and refers to listeners as "possums". If you want Peter and the Wolf, get this cd instead. The other naxos children's cds that I've heard are very good except for Peter and the Wolf. I haven't heard Carnival of the Animals in the naxos collection, but I don't need to now as it is also on here so you get 2 for 1 as well. The Toy Symphony by Leopold Mozart is also on here so excellent quality and excellent value.

The previous review is not accurate. This is not a real orchestra although it is nicely synth-arranged for babies in the Enya-ish fashion (even Staying Alive sounds like a Christmas carol). I felt a little bit frustrated because I expected a real orchestra like in "Rolling Stones by London Symphony Orchestra". Songs like Holiday would sound terrific in such setting. The selection of songs is pretty interesting including Saved by the Bell (Robin's solo single in 69) and For Whom the Bell Tolls (from Size album released in the 90's). It's not bad but I expected much more.

I listened to "Singable Songs For The Very Young" when I was growing up, and I feel it made a positive difference in my life. Now I play it for my children, and they love to listen to these great children's songs. This CD has made a great contribution to our family life.
This is Raffi’s first album (one of many masterpiece Raffi children’s CD’s) and I feel the best children’s music album ever made. It forever changed children’s music for the better when it came out. This fun and singable album has sold over 3 million copies and has been honored by educators. Please buy this for your child and listen to the results; Raffi's music never gets old.
The notes from the original 1976 album are insightful: ... Read More:
