I got this CD as a present to myself, but I've hardly seen it! Everyone has wanted to borrow it! Get yer own!!
The best song by far is the one about digging the 'ole in the ground. But all of his songs have you chuckling to yourself and singing them all day long...

When I think of Neil Diamond and his music, this is how I like to remember him. This is absolutely superb. Not only is it littered with quality material, it also formed the bedrock of a lot of his songs that became the framework of his stunning live show on "Hot August Night", another must have.
The album is essentially split into two. The first half is a collection of some of his most inspired offerings to date. All 5 tracks are excellent. Why doesn't he play songs like "Coldwater Morning" more often - if at all? As previously mentioned in another review here, there is a wealth of material available to do an alternative show including such gems as this.
As for the second half it is a triumph. A piece of work that just flows ... Read More:

A lot of this album and the one he had just released, was sung at an "exclusive" night we enjoyed in Glasgow a couple of years' ago.
Pity we couldn't get him to sing Patricia The Stripper but hey-ho: a good night.

I was so surprised about this disc!
Superb concert, superb picture BUT what on earth are they doing with the sound?? Stereo!!! On a Blu-Ray disc!! Come on, this is the 21st Century and modern technology!
Says 5.1 PCM on the casing, but the actual stage performance is PCM Stereo.
Fans of Sarah Brightman have expressed mixed opinions on this `Best Of' release.
Being labeled as a `crossover' artist I think can be a burden, for there are times when he/she will perform opera and classical music but get criticized by the `classical buffs' for trying to step on the toes of their treasured elitist professional musicians of the classical world.
Then there is the criticism from fans of `popular music', who see their idol apparently deserting their pop roots and alienating themselves by joining the orchestral high society club.
So when pop meets classical is there always friction?
No, I don't side with either of these views, for I believe everyone is free to sing anything they like. Whether ... Read More:

The only thing I will say about this CD is that the 2007 version only has 16 tracks on each CD, rather than the 19 tracks on the original 2000 edition. Otherwise still agreat CD!!
Release Date October 18, 2004
Vanessa Mae's "Choreography" is a masterpiece, as was her previous CD "Subject to change". I bought the CD on its release date in Kuala Lumpur and listened to it all during my 11 hour flight back to England. It's a great fusion of classical and contemporary sounds, bringing in various worldwide influences (Indian, Morroccon, Irish, English, Spanish etc). Wonderful!

You can't beat the originals. Durham's stunning vocals and the sheer fun and imagination on these recordings shines through. The recordings seem to come from a variety of sources and the sound does vary. But the performances allow you to forget that.
Such a shame that the orginal band's reputation is tarnished by association with the New Seekers. They were sweet enough, but there's so much more to the original band, and no other singer at that time matched Durham's vocals.
The well crafted sound is lush enough to compare with Phil Spector, and undoubtedly influenced the next generation of folksy pop: is it any wonder the Australians adored ABBA, having been brought up with The Seekers?

The orchestral playing on this disc is top-notch, but it is unfortunately let down by bland and uninspiring pianism.
It's not that Previn's playing is too subtle for my tastes; he is just poor: neither imaginative nor passionate, yet not sensitive and controlled either, and with a less-than-perfect technique (not that that is necessarily a criticism per se).

i bought the us/canada release of this for my dad's birthday i was expecting it to be some old crap that i wouldnt like but when he played it i was blown away by the amazing songs on it and how powerful they effect you, i can remember i was about 12 and he played "patrica the stripper" and i used to sing a long word by word, but my favourite song ever by him was " don't pay the ferryman" its totally a rock ballad and has such power and its an addictive song it always reminds me of me n my dad singing along in the car *memories*, if anyone hasnt bought it yet i suggest you do because it's worth more than what you pay for it!
