A fine collection of songs performed with class and elegance - as you would expect from B.M. A few words of caution however to those for whom audio quality is important. Although not mentioned on the sleeve notes, this compilation has been re-mastered, and in no small way.

There must be few sound engineers who continue clumsily plying their trade after the onset of profound tinnitus, but a listen to this CD suggests that there is somewhere, at least one determined but ill-advised sufferer.
Each track on this disc has identical heavy compression applied to the sibilant frequencies of the vocal range, pretty much eliminating the natural dynamics and obliterating the nuances of light and shade in B.M.'s capable voice. As an ... Read More:

Superb compilation with the obligatory chart successes of the 50s and 60s, some 70s tracks from her acclaimed "Memphis" and Warm and Tender" albums; a couple of fine duets with Michael McDonald and Dusty Springfield; a tribute to Queen; some excellent tracks from 2002, and most especially 4 new songs. Petula's voice is better, stronger and more soulful than ever on these fantastic, largely self-penned, rather reflective songs, recorded in London, New York, and the fantastic new studios of Arthanor Productions in Geneva in 2008 and with production by John Williams and David Hadzis. Difficult to say which I like best; each one is special in its own way.

The Very Best Of Matt Monro

I can't review this particular disc as I don't have it, but it has all his best tracks. Anyone who doubts Matt's ability should listen to the way he can hold a perfect note - sometimes, at the end of a song, for up to 10 seconds. If this doesn't sound like much, try it yourself! Apparently, when he was in the forces, Matt used to enter talent contests, and was eventually told to stop entering because he kept winning! Scandalously, his title song to 'From Russia with Love' was removed from later issues of that film. Why??

Already, we arrive at album number six for Katherine Jenkins. With every passing year, she seems to continue to gain more momentum and popularity within her career. One reason for this should be contributed to her consistancy. She has not deviated from a selection of traditional classical pieces, hymns and modern songs (with a classical feel). This albumsticks to the formula for the most part except that the album focuses mainly on hymns or songs with a religious/spirtitual basis. Hymns include Silent Night, The Lord Is My Shepherd, Down To The River & May The Good Lord. Other tracks include the Andrew Lloyd Webber 'Pie Jesu' and the ever popular 'Hallelujah' which has been frequently covered
(even ending up in a Shrek movie).

The Ultimate Collection Special Edition

The first Ultimate collection was a single CD version released in 2006, this one is a reissue of that album plus a second disc of slightly more varied songs (less opera arias and more popular tracks) recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall.

For those who already have the original Ultimate version this should be a welcome addition to the collection, for the bonus disc is a worthy add-on rather than just a typical 'bonus disc' of alternative songs intended to boost sales.

And for those who have none of Russell's albums (where have you been?!) this is a perfect introduction to his singing.

I'm surprised by the number of reviewers who criticise Katherine because she has not performed in opera and then compare her unfavourably with leading opera singers. Nowhere on this CD (or any of her CDs and DVDs) is she described as an opera singer and her recordings do not claim to be opera. Her recordings do include some arias from opera (though not here) and these are sung very well, but she also includes Welsh songs,(again sadly none on this disc), hyms, songs from musicals and other works. This variety increases that buyers might not like every track. I bought this CD because it contains 'Samcta Maria' set to the music of the Intermezzo from Mascagmi's Cacalleria Rusticana' 'Be Still My Soul' the hymn set to the main theme from Finlandia by Sibelius ... This is an excellent update of the previously released "My Way: The Best pf Frank Sinatra": the record company have added a whole new CD! The single album was already terrific value for money, containing as it did Frank's best loved and most well known songs but the addition of the extra CD has made this an indispensable album for anyone wanting to add some Frank Sinatra to their CD collection - it just beats all the other competition clean out of sight!

Im 13 years old and im usually into rockish type music but after hearing one Nouvelle Vague song i fell in love with them. I heard the cover of "Ever fall in love" (first sung by the buzzcocks) on tv and i thought it was great so i decided to buy their newest album. The re sings are amazing and the easy flowing mood is great when your trying to relax. I think that anybody could enjoy this album and the great voice of the Nouvelle Vague singers. The instuments are played fantastically and ever though i paid more on the high street than i could have on amazon i feel that it was well worth my money.
