Car Wheels was where my introduction to Lucinda Williams all started.Great to see it being repackaged with a bonus concert disc.Buy this and you will not be dissapointed.More than likely you will be hooked just like i was in 1998.Drunken Angel,Pineola,Metal Firecracker and Lake Charles all briliant pieces of songwriting. The only downside being the money you will need to buy the rest of her lps that you will purchase after this.

This wonderful record surpassed all my expectations i built up after listening to their record with Jenny Lewis. It's far softer than i was expecting, but what a lovely slice of Americana.
From the whispery opening of "How am i to be", to the enrapturing "Waves" you know you've been treated to something special.
Buy this album if you enjoyed the Rabbit Fur Coat, or just buy it. You owe it to yourself.

Yet another gem from the Junkies. It is amazing how they keep it up.
I enjoyed it on first hearing (or second, if you count the live perforamnce at the Royal Albert Hall); but find that it really grows on me and is now one of my more frequently played CDs.
An adult CD, sharing part of their journey through life with their audience, and it is not all a bed of roses, so some of the songs are brooding and dark.
Margo is in fine voice, the instrumentals are great and the lyrics are positivley haunting; oustanding tracks for me include 'Still Lost', 'It doesn't Really Matter Anyway' and 'Mountain'.

Anyone would love this soundtrack from the film of the same name. There are some wonderful Dolly Parton classics on here, including 'I Will Always Love You', made famous by Whitney Houston in 'Bodyguard' - but, in actual fact, la Diva Parton actually wrote and recorded this song for Whorehouse, several years beforehand. The addition of Burt Reynolds, Dom deLuise and Charles Durning (usually a serious actor) all add to the comedy and warmth of both the soundtrack and film itself. It's a must have for any Dolly Parton fans, but it's also a must-have for anyone who believes in good, old fashioned fun, and who still believes that love is possible.

I remember this album when The Thrills burst onto the scene 5 years ago with a clutch of California-inspired singles that captured the mood of what was a record-breaking summer for us in the UK. After 5 years, this is still one of my most-played albums and on a recent trip to California I had this on repeat play in my car more often than The Beach Boys. The vocals are gorgeous and the pure Irishness of the music comes over in a subtle way, not the stereotypical bottle-breaking Pogues way... It's a beautiful album filled with perfect pop songs and full of surprises - how can 'Your love is like Las Vegas' be almost at the end of the album? It just shows you how good the rest of the songs really are!

This is that jackpot album the Mavericks were waiting for. You'd be forgiven for not having heard of them, as until Trampoline, they used to be filed under Country & Western. Actually the band is from Miami, they just do their thing in Nashville!
With each successive album (and since I discovered Trampoline, I've bought the rest!) they've gone less C&W, and more mainstream. On this one they've added a great horn section to give a latin flavour, and boy do they have fun!
Raul Malo, their lead singer has one of those voices that's clear as a bell, and soars effortlessly into falsetto as Roy Orbison's did, and Chris Isaak's does now. The musicianship from all is absolutely top class on ballads, and the foot tappers.

On her sophomore album titled "Hell among the Yearlings", Gillian Welch continues her quest for original songs that ring true to the traditions.
Welch and her composing partner David Rawlings are neo-traditionalists. By this, I mean that they are striving to present the essence of classic American genres like old-style country or bluegrass while making original music. Their new songs sound to everybody like authentic traditional Appalachian folk or old-time country songs, in the manner of artists like, say, the Carter Family.
This time around, she places less emphasis on gospel themes and favours, instead, the tradition of Southern Appalachian country, blues and dirge. The songs are excellent, imbued this time with a very stark, unadorned ... Read More:

I really love this album. Emmyloyu has a great voice! She is one of the best female singers ever! The songs "Bluebird Wine", "Sleepless Nights", and "Boulder to Birmingham" are so beautiful and good! This is a 70's classic!

Another great album from Emmylou. Some people think this is a classic, and I cannot blame them. It has many great songs, such as the title track and (You Never Can Tell) C'est la vie. Emmylou has a great voice and she is a country singer number one.
