One other reviewer commented on the lack of writing credits on this title - and I agree - it's astonishing that there isn't any - nor even a booklet supplied. The CD is housed in a card gatefold digipak and the inner flap lists production credits (Ryan Adams) and recording venues, a list of the band who played on it (The Cardinals) and some other minor details on Addtional participants - and that's it! No lyrics! No idea of who wrote what or why!

In order to straighten this out, the following should help:

1. Rainy Day Blues (Willie Nelson)
2. Songbird (Fleetwood Mac cover, originally on Rumours (1977) but also closely associated with Eva Cassidy)

This is the best album Lyle has made since Pontiac and is probably better than that. It contains a real mix of songs from
That's Right You're Not From Texas and Long Tall Texan which are perhaps narrower in thier appeal to Private Conversation and the title track which would appeal to anyone who enjoys music from folk to rock, not just country. This album shows Lyle at his best and demonstrates his skill both as a singer and as a songwriter. This album is a must for everyone and is an absolute necessity for his fans.

This album was originally titled "The Best Of John Hiatt 1973-1998", but since it effectively sidesteps his earliest recordings, it is actually more like "The Best Of John Hiatt 1983-1998".

Compared with A&M's "Greatest Hits 1987-94", this Capitol release also features material from Hiatt's 1983 album "Riding With The King", from which it draws the title track, but unfortunately not the great roots-rock of "You May Already Be A Winner" and "She Loves The Jerk".

I discovered Hank III through his sterling work as bassist with Superjoint Ritual. Having long been a closet country fan, I decided to check out his albums when I read that he did country/'Hellbilly' shows in the US with his band, Assjack. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and hooked from day one. More upbeat than his later album 'Lovesick, Broke and Driftin', 'Rasin' Outlaw' has it all - baleful country ballads, foot tapping Honky Tonk and fantastic steel guitars and fiddles. Hank's voice may be a bit nasal for some but it suits the mood perfectly and can express all kinds of emotion, from yearning and lonesome to downright dirty. This is a great album. For someone who is farily new to the Jayhawks, i was slightly unsure of some of tha later stuff but am really pleased to have picked this up.

Hollywood Townhall and Tomorrow the Green Grass are great albums but i like the fact the harmonies on this album are a bit smoother. It's also got a lovely Byrds feel in places and is great for a chilled summer album.

Sirens of the Ditch

I have bought and loved all the Drive by Truckers albums, so when I heard Jason Isbell had set out on his own, my first thought was how will that affect the "Truckers". Well we will see later this month but on the evidence of this album Mr Isbell has certainly nothing to fear for his career and will just need that lucky break to get some airplay to become a big, big star - if he wants!
This is a more introspective outing than any truckers album, with many more slow tempo tunes, but with a couple of rockers in there to get the foot tapping. Other reviewers have taken more time than I to give more detail on each track but if I may offer up some more "if you like x, you'll love y" possibilities ...

I agree wholeheartedly with the two previous reviewers except that I`d go a step further in that for me it is in my top5 all time recordings.I ve owned it for probably six years or more and never fail to be impressed every time I listen to it.I ve seen Buddy solo a couple times, even spoke to the man himself.This is for me the BEST thing Buddy has recorded, every home should have one.

There is no doubt that this CD will appeal to a larger audience than its predecessors. As a frequent traveller to and enjoyer of the southern Arizona ambience, I have thoroughly enjoyed the Calexico kaleidoscope of sound. The CDs have been mixed in quality but have always boasted stunning highlights.This CD has enjoyed good reviews but I cannot find one truly outstanding and memorable track. It is a pleasant but palid development of their soundscape with all the quirky nuances mixed well down. Few will dislike it, to be sure, but what a loss!

Silver Mountain is the first album release by this Detroit-based group, although they have been together since 2002.

The album opens with the foot-stomping, thigh-slapping, hoedown-ing "Ain't No Hidin' Love" and just gets better the longer you listen. Their sound is akin to the Rolling Stones "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Honky Tonk Woman" shaken with The Eagles, and smashed back - straight up no ice.

Silver Mountain delivers on all levels, whether it be a rock ballad "If You Want Me To" or the hard rockin' "Queen of the Scene". A superb album. Listen with a bottle of whiskey. You need this music.
