I kind of bought these CCL albums the wrong way round. I got IV first and Route 23 second. Listening at first to 23 (after hearing IV) it just doesn't hit the spot on the first listen (As IV does). That said, after a weeks worth of listening, the album really does start to stand up for itself. Each track getting into your head and reminding you that CCL are right at the front of the Americana scene, and rightly so. The standout track is the title track Route 23. Any great songwriters in the world could not better the lyrics on this gem of a song. Anyone who calls a freeway/motorway a 'two lane blacktop' is clearly thinking about every single line in the song and making sure it is perfect. Dave Wilson sure can write a tune. Overall a great album ... Read More:

"To describe the late June Carter Cash as remarkable, admired, rare, and legendary would accurately express the responses she evoked both from the public and from those who knew her well. Yet to simply heap superlatives and ignore the multiple dimensions to a life which inspired such words would do a disservice to such an endearing woman's memory. When one considers that June Carter Cash was a member of the preeminent family in American roots music, on her own merits a talented singer-songwriter who penned one of country music's most enduring hits ("Ring of Fire") and, perhaps what she will be longest remembered for, served as the muse and deliverer for one of the most charismatic performers in the history of both country and rock ... This is an exceptional album. Poetic and melodic, these songs are both uplifting and sweetly sad. His quavery vocals perfectly matching the simple arrangement. Whilst clearly an anglofile, as evident in 'Clifton Bridge' and 'Sandy Deny', this is contemporary American roots music at it's very best. At last, emerging from the desert here is the true heir to Gram Parsons.

awesome album, excellent purchase for those people getting into wilco. almost a greatest hits live, the vocals and sound are superb, good choice of venue to record.
a few of my personal favs on the album, 'company in my back' and 'jesus etc' and 'via chicago'
good interaction between the crowd and band, especailly jeff tweedy. you can hear thru the show how much the crowd are enjoying it! go and buy this album its a perfect example of what a live album should sound like.

Not what you'd call a cheery collection of songs.... Mary has been well promoted up here in the North on Radio Scotland (under the Alternative Country / Americana labeling). The material is good and having lived in the deep south of the states I can equate to a lot of the songs.
Its very down beat country, great voice AND the kids hate her. She can drive teenagers out of a room in 30 seconds flat (very useful).
Quote from no.2 son - she's Sh&t.

If you like the BoDeans you should love this, classic American songwriting, the composition is excellent, all the songs are good, the packaging is fantastic, this is just a great album. I've listened to it a few times now, and seen them live at ATP - highly recommended.
I have never heard of Tim Wheater until amazon recommended this to me (based on music I've bought in the passed)
This c.d. was in my wish list for some time and I finally bought it with a Vangelis c.d. to make the order worth placing.
I wish I'd bought it earlier, the music is nothing short of brilliant there is not one bad track on this.
I'm not a total lover of flute and that's why I kept putting of ordering this c.d. but there is a lot more to this person than playing flute in my eyes he is as good as terry Oldfield
If not better.
Track one En Trance is a good indication of the style of the c.d. Good percussion good vocals and the flute dose not dominate the track.
The percussion in ... Read More:

After hearing the song 'Before I Break' on a compilation CD, I decided to find out more about Uncle Tupelo by buying their first album, No Depression. Having heard this I deceided to buy more of their albums, but skipped this one out after hearing that it was not quite up to the standard set by their debut. I came back to this album later though, and was very glad that I did. Although I can see that this album is maybe not as immediately enjoyable or as fresh as No Depression, it is still an excellent set of songs which are well contructed and brilliantly played.
If you like No Depression then this album is definitely worth buying. If you are looking to find out more about Uncle Tupelo then start with No Depression, but you will probably soon want ... Read More:
