After all bootlegs finally an official live cd by Miss lang. It features the hits, of course, and the older songs only fans can do sing-a-longs to. I think this cd is only interesting if you're not a fan, because other wise you have all these versions on other cd's. But I'd definitely go for the dvd, at least then you can see what the audience is laughing about. Great songs, great voice, but nothing new.

Angel Band is one of Emmylou Harris' more obscure albums, a flawless gem of mostly traditional songs where her spiritual expression reigns supreme. Backed by acoustic and bass guitars, dobro, fiddle, mandolin, mandola and viola, the vocals are particularly impressive with the tenor of Vince Gill, the baritone of Carl Jackson and the bass of Emory Gordy interweaving perfectly with Emmylou's gorgeous voice.
It opens with the stirring Where Could I Go But To The Lord, which is followed by the title track, which is thematically similar to the well-known Swing Low Sweet Chariot. The third one, the rhythmic If I Be Lifted Up, reminds me of her version of Orphan Girl on the album Wrecking Ball, in its comforting lyrics. The non-traditional ... Read More:

In the nineties, after Dolly parted company with Columbia, she recorded one album for the short-lived Rising Tide label (Treasures) and one album for MCA (Hungry again) before teaming up with Sugar Hill for a series of immensely successful albums beginning with Grass id blue. This compilation contains nine of the eleven tracks from Treasures together with all twelve from Hungry again, but the tracks have been jumbled up a bit - tracks 1 to 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12 are from Treasures while 6, 8, 11 and 13 to 21 are from Hungry again, but I'll review the tracks based on their original albums.
By the time Dolly recorded Treasures, her new singles were no longer being played on radio, so she took the opportunity to record covers of some of her favorite songs. ... Read More:

Hey y'all meat pup's fans,
This was the first Pup's album i bought and i NEVER lived to regret it. Bought like many puppets fans after hearing unplugged. I was blown away by those famous three tracks, escpicially Plateau and Lake Of Fire. A lonely guy named Kurt loved this album, and so should you.
It gave a nice base for them to build on after the frankly dismal 'Meat Puppets (I)' album. If you want punk there's nothing wrong with MP I. However, if you want sweet calm chill music with a splatter of psycadelica, MP II is gonna be your first MP album of many.
Categorising MP II is impossible, as it clearly comes from many influences. However, Kurt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets leading man) described them as "world beat" and i think that ... Read More:

Nora Guthrie, of the Woody Guthrie Archive, first approached Billy Bragg in 1995 with the idea of him writing music for and recording some of the lyrics Woody had written after the Huntington's disease had preventing him from holding, never mind playing, his guitar. The rational behind Billy's suitability seems sensible, singer-songwriter following the folk tradition which, although English, has been passed on to him from Woody Guthrie via Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. Playing the folk festivals with Woody's own apprentices such as Pete Seeger would make him familiar with Woody's history without the necessity to idolise him as some of his contemporise would.
Billy then invited Americano Rockers Wilco to join the party possibly to give the recording an authentic ... Read More:

On this album, the follow-up to The grass is blue, Dolly explores her musical roots further. While still essentially a bluegrass album, there are other influences here. Mountain music with a modern edge would be a more accurate description.
Dolly wrote some new songs for the album - Little sparrow, Bluer pastures, Mountain Angel and Marry me - and recorded covers of Seven Bridges Road (Eagles), Shine (Collective soul), I get a kick out of you (the often-covered Cole Porter classic), I don't believe you've met my baby (a Louvin Brothers song that Dolly previously recorded as a duet with Porter Wagoner, and which has been covered by many country singers, including Alison Krauss), A tender lie (Restless heart), In the sweet by and by and two songs she wrote and first ... I have bought and loved all the Drive by Truckers albums, so when I heard Jason Isbell had set out on his own, my first thought was how will that affect the "Truckers". Well we will see later this month but on the evidence of this album Mr Isbell has certainly nothing to fear for his career and will just need that lucky break to get some airplay to become a big, big star - if he wants!
This is a more introspective outing than any truckers album, with many more slow tempo tunes, but with a couple of rockers in there to get the foot tapping. Other reviewers have taken more time than I to give more detail on each track but if I may offer up some more "if you like x, you'll love y" possibilities ...
So if you like any one or more of Steve Earle, Allman Brothers, ... Read More:
