This disc is a remastered release of the 1981 Virgin edition of Tangerine Dream's music for Michael Mann's movie, "Thief". It doesn't contain the film's entire soundtrack music by any means: nor, indeed, is all of the music on the CD to be found in the film! The reasons are simple: much of the film's most powerful music-that which accompanies the scenes "He's beeping in good", "Into the Shaft" and "Car Lot Showdown"-had already been released on the band's 1979 album "Force Majeure", as parts of the track 'Thru Metamorphic Rocks'. That music is represented on this disc in a shorter (5 minute) remix, 'Igneous', which uses a characteristic cue chord sequence from the film as an intro to ... Read More:

With a talent like Orbit's, surely he could have done something to create a modern mood in these classic tunes. The arrangements add nothing to the music, reducing them to nothing more than banal elevator dross.
Very dissapointing, dispite trying to find a glimmer of positivity.

I wrote a previous review that was kind of uneducated. :) *takes a deep breath* - OK - This is the album that got me started on the Schnauss Odysee. I credit him for introducing many of us to a wonderful music genre - Shoegazers. I heard this album on an online radio station, and was immediately entranced...the signature heartbeat started here and has continued throughout his following releases and has perpetuated a legion of loyal devotees. I have witnessed this album calm any hyper individual :) ( not like my previous offhand comment about a legion of drunken men ) what I meant was it's so pleasant, it can fit into the 'generally enjoyed' category, but slips into the Indie music world with a distinct feel that is only his, and is truly an ... Judging from the rest of the reviews, a lot of people like this album. But I'll bet there's quite a few GA fans who are mightily disappointed with it too. It sounds like GA trying to make a MOR pop/rock album. And for me, with the exception of one or two tracks, it just doesn't work.

Tangerine Dream's 1986 album "Underwater Sunlight" is the second of their major themed studio albums, building on the success of their previous release, "Le Parc". It also marks Paul Haslinger's debut with the band, following the departure of Johannes Schmoelling some six months earlier.
Inspired perhaps by Edgar Froese's love for scuba diving, this album evokes various aspects of the underwater world but without resorting to any hackneyed techniques or sonic images which are commonplace on those 'natural ambient recordings' to be found all over the place nowadays. Don't worry that this disc is awash with 'soothing and relaxing synthesiser sounds (TM)' played over taped whale and dolphin sounds and the splashing of the sea, though! ... Read More:

I have to say the same as a previous reviewer. this album is not to be used as background music. it requires you to sit down with the intent to do nothing but listen.
im not sure how i discovered M83 but im glad i did. this album will create all sorts of visions in your head as you listen. perhaps best used on a long train journey, as you look out the window the music just seems to match somehow.

If you know Eno and you know cluster then you will know what to expect: for you mortals who have not yet discovered the genius of these artists then dip your toe in and feel the warm water of intelligence mingling with spirit. This is as far from rock and roll as you can get, yet it is tinged with the faint hues of acid comedowns and ecstasy highs. All you need to know is one thing. IT IS QUALITY.

Well, I've only been listening to this album for a day now and I already love it. Although its not the Orb's best album (a la U.F.Orb), it has some quality tracks on it e.g. the big beats of Ubiquity, the techno-ness of Asylum, the bounciness of Toxygene (which wasn't commisioned from Jean Michel Jarre, that was just a joke made by the band). Also, the album has an obvious oriental quality to it, which also helps me like it because I like parts of Chinese/Japanese music. If you're an Orb fan add it to your collection, if you haven't heard them try U.F.Orb or Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld first, and if you don't like them then...what are you reading this for? Buy and Bye.
