The first time I saw the video for "Last Night" I wondered how I could've missed this band during my 70's punk phase growing up, even the video has a retro look. Not to mention being completely live, a rarity... It wasn't until I heard the video again that I decided to search for the band online. Unbelievable! They're a NEW release! Wonderful minimalistic guitar, driving drums, melodic bass guitar (what happened to melodic bass parts anyway?)... and the odd Jim Morrison vocal (that's what I hear anyway). Whatever happened to these sounds from NY in the 70's? Here it is again... Just what I was missing. Keep the music coming guys.

After a brief stint in The Breeders, Tanya went off to form her own band, expanding on the ethereal pop songs she made during her time in Throwing Muses. Tanya can make fantastic pop songs like Gepetto and Feed the Tree till the cows come home but it's Star's spookier moments like Witch that really make this album just what it is: a triumph.

who this band are or why they chose to remake one of my very favourite songs of all time. No this isn't better than the "Love" version of yesteryear but it is different and stands alone as something absolutely tremendous.

A lot of people don't like Loco very much, I'm not one of them! There are some great tunes on here, and their cover of Microphone Fiend is awesome!
I've been a fan of FLC for about 10 years now and have finally got around to making a website in support of them. You can find it at www.flcnyc.co.uk if you'd like to come around and find out more of what they're currently up to!

Shivaree are certainly one of the most original artists around at the moment. This album is not something that can easily be compared to anything anyone else is doing at the moment. Shivaree's songs are by no means immeadiate, and to fully appreciate this album will take repeated listening. This said, how the atmospheric and unusually commercial (for them) single 'Goodnight Moon' wasn't a hit is anyones guess! The bands deliciously named lead singer, Ambrosia Parsley, has a sultry, smoky, lazy drawl like delivery and this creates the perfect back drop for the groups guitar, bass, drums and experimental affects style backings. When such backings work well, as on tracks like 'Bossa Nova' and 'Arlington Girl' (complete with fairground like noises!) ... Read More:

The band's poppiest album to date is their strongest after their debut. Kristin Hersh proves she's got the chops to write good poppy songs, topped off with her harsh vocals (although ensures her abrasiveness is still intact with Hook in Her Head) and Tanya Donelly offers up two of her best ever songs for Throwing Muses: Not too Soon sounds like the best pop song ever while Honeychain lifts you up and twirls you around its sad surreal little world. Brilliant album and Tanya's last with the band.
The best songs on Tragic Kingdom were Don't Speak, Just a Girl and Sunday Morning. On Return of Saturn at least half the Songs are as good as any of those three; Suspension without Suspense is better than Don't Speak, Ex-Girlfriend is better than Just a Girl, and Bathwater is better than Sunday Morning. Then you have New, Comforting Lie, Dark Blue, Artificial Sweetner, Too Late, Simple Kind of Life, Magics in the Makeup - all of which are just as good as anything on TK.
Simply based on the number of 'classic' songs, this album is The Daddy. I recently made a compilation CD of the best of ND (and I have everything they've ever released) - 10 out of 19 songs were from this album.

This, in my opinion, is the best train album out, mildly surprising seeing as it was their first, released in 1998. The album goes from strength to strength and even if your not taken by it immediately it will definately grow on you. Meet Virginia and Homesick are both incredible tracks and the album boasts a slightly rugged feel that is perhaps lost with the other train albums, which most see as generally more polished. I'd give this album six stars if i could, its a truly great buy.

This was my favourite album of 2002 and I still love it. It's very different to The Breeders' previous album Last Splash. Nowhere near as poppy and fun, it has a more mature feel, and there's only really one track on the album that in any way harks back to 1993, and that comes near the end of the album. But that doesnt matter because what you get instead in just incredible. There are no duff tracks on this album at all, each one is expertly performed and produced and what makes it special is they all come together so well to give the album a great sense of completeness.
