Great A-side, but words do not describe how good this B-side is. I've never heard a duet quite like it. Rather than sing in unison, the two are singing different vocals at the same time, giving the song a real sense of the disharmony that exists between men and women. Regina Spektor's stunning voice compliments the whole Strokes sound perfectly, and to Casablancas' credit, he doesn't get blown away by her powerful singing. If anything, his laid back vocals are a perfect foil for her emotional articulation, giving the song the perfect juxtaposition of the high-maintenance female and relaxed male. Essential

Teaming Cat Power with the Hi team who recorded behind Ann Peebles and Al Green was an unexpected and brilliant idea. A special alchemy took place at Ardent Studios in Memphis which enhanced both Cat Power's gorgeous smoky voice and the soulful groove the band has laid down. I would say that that it was worth the price of the album just for the majestic opening song, The Greatest, were it not that it is also available as a single, but that would be to unfairly demean the rest of the record. Of course Cat Power does not need embellishment, as is demonstrated on the unadorned song Hate. Cat's most accomplished album to date.

There aren't enough stand-out tracks to justify five stars, and some of this is a little too derivative, but it's all good fun. "Ride", "Coffee and Tea Wrecks" and "Lou Weed" betray their influences in their titles, but the latter works in its own right as well as a parody/imitation. Just when the album seems to be running out of steam in the middle, it's rescued by the compulsive beat of Nothing, making a whole song out of a Led Zep cadenza ("Babe I'm Gonna Leave You"), with its distorted, almost falsetto 60s-style vocal. Then there's the straight-ahead garage-rock of Grunge Betty, before blasting out with It's A Fast-Driving Rave-Up With The Dandy Warhols Sixteen Minutes - the Velvets' Sister Ray meets Hawkwind's Valium 10 in what my mother-in ... Arguably not one of the best Bowie/Pop collaborations but a not bad album from two of most flamboyant characters in the music industry. Hidden gems are the early collaborations between Pop and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols fame, who played lead guitar on "Cry For Love". However this album is worth buying for just one song in my view..."Shades"! A beautiful love song which really shows off Pop's sometimes underrated vocal talents! That's not to say the rest of the album is bad because it's not, it's just this one song lifts it from average to worth a buy, for any Iggy Pop fans who might be considering buying this album.

This was my favourite album of 2002 and I still love it. It's very different to The Breeders' previous album Last Splash. Nowhere near as poppy and fun, it has a more mature feel, and there's only really one track on the album that in any way harks back to 1993, and that comes near the end of the album. But that doesnt matter because what you get instead in just incredible. There are no duff tracks on this album at all, each one is expertly performed and produced and what makes it special is they all come together so well to give the album a great sense of completeness.

The Blues Explosion are one of my favourite bands and in my opinion almost offensively underrated, this album manages to encompass their bad-assery from all of their work whilst making collaborations with delta blues ledgend R. L. Burnside, displaying their versitillaty as a band and showing their appreciation and respect for the music in which they root from. Brilliantly produced and crafted with such flare and innovation thats peppered with attitude and rawness that I think every human misses from music today. This is a brilliant album.

I got this CD when I was in school and I still listen to it now and then! Really thats all that needs to be said, some great tracks, the highly underated Hopeless Housewive and Don't Sell Me Short are fantastic and most the songs are good. It's got a softer BR feel but then sometimes thats what you want... so great stuff!
Don't expect any moshpit classics and you wont be dissapointed!

I discovered Shivaree through the Kill Bill soundtrack, which had Goodnight Moon on it. Having loved that track so much in every single way and playing it over and over I had to have more. So I got the album and eagerly waited by the front door for it to come so I could get it to my CD player ASAP (seriously)!
I was disappointed.. It's not that the album isn't good, it's just that Goodnight Moon is one of the best songs that I've ever heard, and being like I am, I expected the whole album to be like this. However, as I gradually played the rest of the album more and more, I've started to enjoy at least half of the tracks almost as much as Goodnight Moon. As for the others, I personally feel they lack some venom, but maybe in time I will like them as ... Read More:

This, in my opinion, is the best train album out, mildly surprising seeing as it was their first, released in 1998. The album goes from strength to strength and even if your not taken by it immediately it will definately grow on you. Meet Virginia and Homesick are both incredible tracks and the album boasts a slightly rugged feel that is perhaps lost with the other train albums, which most see as generally more polished. I'd give this album six stars if i could, its a truly great buy.
